Puerto Rico is located in North America. Being an Island, over 97% of the population has access to water from Puerto Rico Aqueduct and Sewer Authority (PRASA). Still, over 76,000 residents rely on water sources such as wells and pumps not supplied by PRASA. The country borders Haiti, Dominican Republic, and the Virgin Islands. Puerto Rico is predisposed to natural hazards such as tsunamis, earthquakes, landslides, flooding, subsidence, and hurricanes such as Maria, the deadliest Atlantic Hurricane.

According to the World Bank, Puerto Rico had an adult literacy rate of 92.39% in 2017. This is an increase from 86.7% in 1980 and represents an increasing average annual rate of 2.13%. The literacy rate encompasses adults (15+) who can understand, read, and write ("World Bank Literacy rate- Puerto Rico | Data", 2020). In 2019, 93.6% of Puerto Ricans dwelled in urban areas. The country has a projected annual average rate of size change of -0.14%. Heavily populated cities include the capital city, San Juan, with a population of 395, 326, Bayamon 208, 116, Carolina 176,762, Ponce 166,327, and Caguas 142,893. The major religion is Roman Catholic comprising 85%, Protestant, and others make up 15%.

Puerto Rico has 3.7% persons under 5 years, 17.9% under 18 years, 21.3% over 65, and 52.5% females ("U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts: Puerto Rico", 2020).  Entrepreneurial opportunities exist in Puerto Rico, especially after Hurricane Maria’s devastation, which created financial turbulences. The beauty industry would thrive best because of the high female population. The consideration that would impact labor includes high taxes and the existence of tax exemptions for the investors, especially now that the country has a huge public debt of $ 72 billion debt. After the Hurricane, many business closed down; hence there is an abundant supply of labor. Shipping considerations include the territorial guidelines as the country is US territory, and being an island nation makes it limited and expensive. The eminent risk in the country is vulnerable to devastating natural disasters.
