Mateos, J., Fafián-Labora, J., Morente-López, M., Lesende-Rodriguez, I., Monserrat, L., Ódena, M. A., ... & Arufe, M. C. (2018). Next-Generation Sequencing and Quantitative Proteomics of Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome-derived cells point to a role of nucleotide metabolism in premature aging.    PloS one ,    13 (10),

Overview of the study

This study expounds on the fatal condition known as Hutchinson- Gilford Progeria syndrome (HGPS), which is believed to cause accelerated growth of patients. It further explains how this condition was discovered over a decade ago with no cure found up to now. The disease has caused many deaths of patients with a mean age of thirteen. The study further gives point on measures that have been implemented in pursuit of trying to curb the problem. Some of the actions taken have had a positive outcome which impacts how the cells involved develop. For instance, the supplement that worked, known S-adenosyl-methionine (SAMe) is believed to have a highly positive impact in the proliferative effect which decreases senescence that is involved in tainting the growth of the HPGS cell lines. In overall, the data collected in this study suggests that nucleotide making and purine metabolism are affected when one experiences faster aging. These findings offer hope for treatment of the condition.

Type of study

The type of qualitative study used in this analysis is ethnography. This type of research involves an accurate description of people’s cultures with their customs, habits, and mutual differences. As shown in the study, it is shown how scientists have studied the practices and differences found in patients at the goal of finding a cure for HPGS. The researchers are believed to look at the society prone to this disease in the subject to the study. Scientists have analyzed patients over the years, but as the study says, they have not found a cure. In the process, however, they have found supplements that can be used to slow down the cells that cause the HPGS disorder. The gradual motive behind the research is to find a cure to minimize the number of deaths from the disease.

How authors established trustworthiness

The authors of the article have come up with several ways of proving their eligibility is several ways. One of the ways is, they support every finding with reports that show how they arrived at them. In the article, guidelines on every method they used are shown, giving their audience a reliable platform. Also, the authors use tables, charts, and argumentative points. The form of writing creates a ground where once a reader does not understand something, then they can do follow up in the modes of writing used.

Is the study applicable in my population?

The study is very applicable to my population. The people suffering from Progeria will relate with almost everything highlighted in the research. Therefore, they will benefit so much from this study since it shows the possibility of finding a way of dealing with the problem. The study proves that if scientists continue to research more, there is hope for a cure, thus reducing the number of deaths from Progeria patients.

Quantitative Research Two

Ghosh, S., Sinha, J. K., & Raghunath, M. (2016). Epigenomic maintenance through dietary intervention can facilitate DNA repair process to slow down the progress of premature aging. IUBMB life, 68(9), 717-

Overview of the study.

In this study, different forms of Progeria, a rare genetic cell weakening disease that quickens aging, are discussed. The research tries to reveal its finding of over two decades such as pieces of evidence about the abnormal aging, experiments carried out in pursuit of understanding cellular and molecular basis of clinically heterogeneous disorders that are found under progeroid syndromes (PSs). The study discusses symptoms, syndromes, molecular aspects, and experimental models. The study also explains the current diagnosis of the progeroid syndromes and promising drugs and medication that can be used in controlling and curing aging disorders. Therefore, this study can be seen as a new era in the research on the progeroid syndromes by reviewing the above-stated goals and help in better understanding of PSs.

Type of study

The study can be specified as an ethnography type. Ethnography is the type where scientists use reliable people’s cultures description and mutual differences. In the study, one can easily see that researchers have studied the different kinds of progeroid syndromes from the patients suffering from it over two decades. Patients suffering from the conditions have been observed to learn their cultures to determine the diseases’ origin. For instance, several studies have proven that the disease affects people of kinds, regardless of race and age. Researchers have come up with these findings by viewing the patients as subjects to their study. This method is in pursuit of professionally coming up with ways of

How authors established trustworthiness

The authors of the article have used several trustable methods of catching their audience’s attention. The credibility of the authors is very high since a reader can understand what is being discussed in the paragraphs. Each finding is put under a subtopic that is brief and straight to the point. The researchers have included a referencing page which can help a reader in confirming what they require. They have transferred the information gathered in their search nicely and in an easily understandable way. These methods have developed a high level of trustworthiness since the data is reliable.

Is the study applicable to my population?

The study applies to my population. Considering that PSs has caused an effect in the current society, this study is beneficial. For instance, the promising drugs and medications discussed in the study can be used to slow down the syndromes and even cure some of them. The implementation of the survey can in the reduction of deaths caused by PSs. For many years people have died from the syndromes since the diseases’ symptoms are not detected early enough, and if discovered, the right measures to deal with them are not followed. Since this study explains in detail how doctors can detect the disease in early ages, handle and cure, then a considerable number of lives can be saved thanks to this study.
