Admission of patients in the health care centers is a standard procedure in treatment, especially for patients requiring intensive care. The admission entails allocating a bed to the patient to accommodate them during the treatment process. In the hospital planning process, the bed capacity remains a point of consideration in most health facilities in both developed and developing countries. The organization can increase the number and size of beds in the hospital as a quality improvement initiative. The paper describes an initiative to address the problem of bed capacity in the organization based on the high demand in the area.

Problem

In the healthcare organization, the demand for beds is high and seems to affect the treatment process by slowing services and increased cost. The previous project carried out by the organization to address the problem based on specificity in discharging patients. However, the shortage of bed spaces persisted due to a delayed discharge of patients and transfers. The unpredictability of releases among the admitted patients in the hospital has caused most families to spend more time in the checking rooms risking the lives of their patients.

The area is densely populated with a high rate of disease outbreaks, which increase the demand for medical services. The initiative to increase the number and size of beds is important in the hospital to help meet the demand for medical services in the area. The results of the previous research support the initiative by giving the statistical estimations of the expected change in the hospital. During the previous research, the quality management team gathered regarding the possible solution to the problem. The results further evaluated the best way by considering the impact of each possible solution.

Evidence-Based Practice

The steps to increase the bed capacity in the hospital are evidence-based and involves six parts. Delayed admission in the hospital is a problem of interesting affecting around fifty people in a day. The suggested solution is to increase the number of beds by asking for donations from potential agencies. The problem is evidenced by the increased death rates in the area due to delayed treatment. The population of the area is high, with many cases of disease outbreaks which require advanced treatment for inpatients. According to data from the service provider in the hospital, patients have difficulties in booking appointments with doctors because the beds are insufficient ( Gibbons, Hur & Mann, 2017) . The hospital has an online portal that shows the number of negative reviews to increase due to poor treatment services.

The hospital issued questionnaires to the patients and clinical expertise to get suggestions on the bed preference. According to the consultations, the management team should consider purchasing modernized beds that will make it easy for nurses to attend to the patients. The size of ward rooms will be expanded to accommodate the beds. The features of the modern beds must be addressed by the clinical experts to ensure that the initiative solves the problem efficiently. The initiative shows that beds are core in the stock capital in the health facilities ( Ruff et al, 2018) . The management team must ensure that the quality, size, and type of beds purchased for the hospital solve the problem to avoid future demand.

Evaluation

The initiative will be evaluated based on a series of quality control stages that will consider the hypothesis and statistical data regarding the problem. The rationale for the proposed research states that the purchase of more beds will solve the problem of high bed capacity demand in the organization. The variables in the evaluation are bed size and patient population in the area. According to the hospital database, a total of 10,000 people visit the patient within a month. During disease outbreaks, the number increases, which makes it difficult for the hospital to admit all the patients. The proposed initiative will provide 8,000 fully equipped beds to ensure that all patients are admitted without delay. The nurses and service providers will work together to ensure that data on empty and occupied beds are recorded for easy allocation. The number of workers to clean and maintain the condition of the beds will be increased to support the success of the project by increasing bed capacity and durability ( Townsend, Skrip & Galvani, 2015) . The management team will collect data from the patients regarding their satisfactory rate on completion of the project.

Conclusion

The quality improvement initiative involves the provision of bed capacities to solve the problem of delayed admission in the hospital due to lack of empty beds. The area is densely populated with many cases of disease outbreaks leading to a rise in bed space for admission. Most of the disease is contagious and force the patients to spend a long day in the hospital. The variable affecting the impact of the initiative are bed capacity and the patient population size. The number of beds to be purchased will be 2,000 less the total patient population according to the hospital database. The initiative will solve the common problem in the hospital and improve medical services.
