Race laws, whiteness, and citizenship are connected because they define a basis for identity among different groups. Whiteness is used as a form of identity among the white groups while citizenship is used as a form of identity among individuals of different countries. Zangwill defined America as a melting point by noting that it is made of individuals of different ethnic backgrounds and immigrants. Genocide can be defined as a deliberate killing towards people of a specific ethnic background or group.
