Hebrew Home is affiliated to the ministry of health. When searching for a proper health facility for a resident, Hebrew Home at Riverdale is among the best institutions in the country. I work as a supervisor at the food service department of Hebrew Home and I ensure that there is adequate food in the facility, and all the duties in the department are performed well. This home is appropriate to people who require a variety of needs, these includes specialized treatment or ongoing care and has been active for the past one hundred years. Hebrew home focuses on improving the lives of older people in society, and it works in conjunction with major hospitals in New York City. This facility has adequate staff that operates on a 24-hour basis, and the services provided range from therapy (occupational, speech, and physical therapy), administration of flu vaccines, and hospice and palliative care. Hebrew Home also specializes in rehabilitating patients who have suffered from a stroke, have heart problems, and patients who need a joint replacement.
Most patients admitted at Hebrew Home are suffering from ailments caused by poor nutrition; these include diabetes, hypertension, malnourishment, obesity, and cancer ("Ongoing Care - RiverSpring Health Nursing Home, Rehabilitation, and Managed Care", 2020). When most patients were admitted to the hospital, they were already suffering from malnutrition. Others developed undernourishment while they were still in the hospital. It is therefore important for the Hebrew Home to implement a technique that would allow a patient to order meals while at the same time observing their dietary problems. Nutrifix App is an essential innovation since it will enable people working in the food service department to understand the type of meals a particular patient needs.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
There have been instances were a patient orders meals that are not available in the nursing home, and when they are provided with meals that they have not ordered, they deny them, thus leading to food wastage, and malnourishment for the patient does not eat ("Refusing to eat/drink | ConsultGeri Symptom", 2020). The Nutrifix App was developed in 2016 by Joel Burgess to allow people across America to understand the type of food that they are required to eat. The App is a positive breakthrough for it will minimize food wastage in the facility and help health practitioners to improve the health of a patient. Also, patients can download the App on their phones and learn new eating habits.
The food service manager thought it was a good idea to implement the Nutrifix App in the healthcare system, for it will minimize the time used by staff to consult patients on what they would love to eat (Arsenault, 2018). .Its time consuming to go from one patient to another inquiry about their choice of food for the day. Nutrifix App allows the patients to select healthy meals from the options provided by the App when the food they have chosen is not available in the health facility.
The differing opinion was aired by staff members who deliver food to the patients. They stated that the App would not be useful for assisted patients since they require the help of health care practitioners to determine their dietary needs (Darbyshire et al., 2016).The opinion from these members was positive since the person who brought up the idea of implementing the innovation into the system did not consider how it will affect the assisted patients.
The third opinion was raised by a member of staff who requested to know how the patients will learn to use the App ("Activities in Nursing Homes - Activities Performed on Tablets | Dynseo", 2020) . Most patients are suffering from different ailments others cannot see; this implies that the Hebrew Home will have to look for people who are trained in handling people with special needs to handle this category of patients. This opinion was positive since not all patients understand how to an electronic device.
The persons who will oversee the implementation of the project in the Health facility include the chairman, financing department, IT, experts, nurses, and the managers at the department of foodservice. The IT department will need to equip each hospital bed with an effective tablet; this involves doing away with nonfunctional gadgets and replacing them with new ones. Also, the IT experts should ensure that the gadgets are easy to use to avoid inconveniencing the elderly patients. The finance department of the hospital will be provided with an invoice for the amount of money that would be used in purchasing and repairing of the tablets. Also, the facility needs to increase the number of staff to help the assisted patients; this includes bringing meals for the sick and ensuring they have ordered the right food. Patients who have difficulties operating the tablets will be assigned staff members who will train them. The success of this innovation will be measured after one month of its implementation to allow the food service department to ascertain whether it was successful. Its success will be measured using a questionnaire, interviews, and surveys, all members using the App will be an interview; they include the patients, food providers, dieticians, and nurses. If the project becomes successful, the facility will include it in the long-term plans to ensure it stay functional for a long time.
According to the Elite business magazine, most people are struggling to lose weight; however, they have not found a possible solution to their problems. These people are not able to keep track of the number of calories they have not taken in a day. Burgess created the App since he was also struggling to deal with weight issues. The users of this App are required to set the weight goals on Nutrifix and will do the rest for them. The App checks what the user eats and provides names of restaurants where the App user can access a healthy meal. This App has attracted thousands of people, and nearly nine hundred thousand food joints have signed App with it.
I am concerned about the success of implementing since including the E-da Apps in the health care system would benefit both the nursing home and the patients. Patients who are correctly fed recuperate fast since their nutritional needs are met, the facility will not incur losses since they will save enough food and the funds will not be misused on buying food that their patients will not require. The App is useful to patients who do not understand what they are supposed to eat, it provides vital in information which includes the amount of calorie intake a user has taken. The App provides alternatives on what the elderly patients can eat, and what they may be lacking in the diets. For assisted patients, healthcare providers can involve their family members and teach them how to use the App to help the sick maintain a healthy lifestyle. Usage of Apps is quick and safe; it makes it easier for health practitioners and food providers to deal with patients quickly by using them.
