Recto Vesical Fistula During Barium Enema Procedure in Radiology

Abstract 

Many patients with stomach complications require proper examination of the stomach interior linings. Majority of the stomach related complications emanate from colon disorder. Recto vesical fistula is an abdominal condition whereby the rectum has unusual linkage to blander. The Diverticulosis is stomach disorder whereby the diverticula are found in the intestines. The presence of diverticula in the intestine might pose a great night result in serious abdominal complications. Diverticulosis can be corrected through the Barium Enema procedure. Recto vesical fistula condition is an abdominal condition that results from the association of rectum and the bladder through accidental apertures. Barium Enema procedure is focused on improving the visibility of the intestines during x-ray Scanning. The paper presents the actual administration of Barium enema procedure in diagnosing and treatment of diverticulosis and rectal vesical fistula conditions. 

Patient’s History 

The patient is a 66-year-old male. He has signs and symptoms that indicate the possibility of diverticulosis in his rectum. The patient has been referred by a primary physician for radiological Barium enamel examination and diagnosis. Moreover, the patient exhibits symptoms that indicate a high possibility of having Recto vesical fistula. 

Barium Enema Procedure in Diagnosing Diverticulosis 

Barium enema procedure involves the application of Barium power to improve the visibility of the stomach parts during diagnosis. The process of using Barium enema involves the use of Barium chemicals in the diagnosis of abdominal conditions. In order to under the process of Barium enema effectively, one ought to understand that, the tests for abdominal complications use an x-ray scanner (Jabbour, Lamzaf & Karmouni, 2018). X-rays can view all abdominal parts clearly except the intestines. Physicians usually use Barium powder in improving the visibility of the intestines. The process for Barium enema involves mixing the chemical with water. The water is then passed into the rectum using a tube. Barium powder is white in color. After the Barium has been streamed into the body, it makes the intestines to have a white background and therefore improving on their visibility. Barium enema procedure is effective in the treatment plan for diverticulosis. The white color of Barium acts as the contrast media for improving visibility. 

Recto Vesical Fistula 

Recto vesical fistula is a medical condition that involves the presence of an accidental connection between the large intestines and the bladder. Recto vertical fistula is a unique complication because it involves the presence of an aperture that could link the rectum and the urinary balder ( Sangster, 2018 ). These connections between the rectum and the bladder can cause more complications to a patient since it allows gas and solid waste to enter the urinary bladder. Patients with Recto Vesical fistula stand a high chance of complications in the process of Barium enema. Whenever the patients apply pressure on their abdomen, rectum allows gas or solid body wastes to enter the bladder through the connecting openings. In the event of gas and solid waste entering the body, serious tomography is performed. 

Recto vesical fistula is corrected through the use of computer tomography. The use of tomography allows the physician to have a cross-sectional view of the specific organ or other compact substances in the body. Tomography performed on Recto vesical fistula helps the healthcare provider to access the number of solid deposits or levels of gas that could have been passed from the rectum into the bladder ( Verra, Forcignanò, Secco & Arezzo, 2019 ). Extraction methods for the solid deposits are then chosen depending on the level of deposits in the urinary bladder. However, caution has to be applied in the attempt to retrieve solid wastes deposits inside the bladder. The lining of the urinary bladder is thin and soft and it poses a threat of tearing in case it is subjected to pressure. Therefore the method chosen to correct Recto vesical fistula should be a cautious one. 

Conclusion 

Patients suffering from diverticulosis condition and rectal vesical fistula disorder can be can be administered using the Barium enema approach. The Barium enema process is a treatment approach that uses Barium chemical in improving x-ray visibility. All the parts of the abdomen are visible in the x-ray except the rectum. Barium is mixed with water and channeled into the rectum through the use of the tube. Recto Vesical fistula involves a medical condition whereby the rectum of an individual has an aperture that connects the rectum with the bladder. The abnormal connection of the rectum and the bladder causes gas and solid waste to enter the bladder.
