The United States and Canada have managed to develop a bilateral relationship. Despite many struggles between the two countries, they have developed a unique relationship (English, 2020) . The two countries' relationship has been forged by their shared common values and interests, geography, strong connections, and economic ties. The two countries have the world's largest trade relationships and have an efficient and secure flow of people and goods between their borders which helps on improving both countries’ economic competitiveness and growth. This paper focuses on the issues that have promoted the true relationship between the US and Canada.

US and Canada share the longest undefended border globally, which promotes free trade between the countries. The border was developed during the war revolves around the 1700s, whereby the US demanded Great Britain to give them Canada. British rejected the demand, and the US invaded Canada with their interest lying on the British. The two countries formed treaties in the 1900s, which delineated a border between them. The countries made an international boundary commission in 1925 to retain the monuments and land between the two countries (Nancy, 2021). The border was mainly established to promote peace between Canada and the US. The two countries have had a consensus to resolve the remaining agreements, such as the Machias Seal Island with the Canada beacon, that the US was claiming. There is also a passage at the northwest that Canada claims. Although the countries have had issues regarding the border, they have reached a harmonious correlation that extends from the Pacific to the Atlantic. The unguarded border enables citizens from both countries to conduct business by allowing a free flow of goods.

The United States is the main trade partner of Canada. Canada is highly dependent on United States market shares for both the export and imports of its products. According to the US trade surrogates, the trade of products between Canada and the US in 2019 was estimated to be around 718.1 billion dollars (Canada | United States Trade Representative, 2021) . Canada also has fast-growing tourism services; it is among the leading tourist destinations, and most of its tourists are from the United States. About a quarter of Canada's labor force is from the trade unions connected to the United States on the countries' labor and taxations. The unions strive to wage equality between the Canadian and their American correlatives. Canada has high tax rates, making many professionals from the country seek employment in the United States.

The United States and Canada have similar political practices as they are both federal and democratic states. The two countries share many similar cultures with varying processes, structures, and regulations that control each country. The two countries differ mostly on their constitution. The US constitution is usually a single document, and the Canadian constitution contains the written and unwritten elements. Also, in the United States, the president heads the states and the government. In Canada, the Queen heads the state while the governor heads the government. The Canadian government is based on a presidential, legislative government grounded on segregation of power, while in the United States, the president cannot be a member of any congress house or any cabinet member. The president has no right in the United States to introduce a bill concerning or defending policies before congress.

The US has always been regarded as a place of opportunity and where potential immigrants can gain prosperity and flexibility. Before the 1850s, the refugee slaves who escaped from the south of the US and moved to the north were considered free. After passing the Refugee slave act, the slaves in the north were no longer safe. Slaves who had fled were capture and returned to their owners. The underground railroad was a system of secure houses run by people who abolished free and slave states and Canada. Upper Canada allowed black people to vote and even own property, marry and earn a living. In collaboration with the Canadian government and the US, the abolitionist societies developed a new life in Canada in which refugees acquired land and education assistance. Although slaves were granted freedom in Canada, they still faced oppression, racism, and separations, which were pushed away with time. After the signing of the Proclamation, some refugees remained in Canada, and others return to the US.

British declared in Proclamation in 1973 at the end of the war between the Indian and French in northern America. The Proclamation was intended to conciliate the appease Americans through checking in the settler’s intrusions into their lands. In the times, the Proclamation became the basis of Canada and Native American regulation in the US. The Proclamation by King George III was developed to rule the northern American territories that Britain and France had crumbled after the 7 years of war (Hall, 2019). It also meant to regulate the structures for arbitrating treaties with the native inhabitants of Canada's huge section. It lawfully defined America's northern part and the western part of the Appalachian Mountains as large native reservations.

The policy of the liberal government, war collaborations, and economic links between the US and Canada made the two countries develop a close relationship. US and Canada developed a unique relationship during the second world war for due to two reasons. First, the development of continentalism in which a unique correlation challenged the national sovereignty theory. Second, there was an unequal rate of technological and economic growth after 1950. The US was approaching its limits to the point of exploiting its natural resources. Canada, on its interior defense orbit of the US, had numerous undeveloped and available resources. The US had the interest of being assured of getting the resources since the country was developed.

Conclusively, Canada and the US have had a unique relationship between them. The countries have cooperated with free trade between them by sharing an undefended border, which promotes trade. In terms of government, both countries have similar political practices of democratic and Federal states. The countries also had similar histories of racism, and slave immigration, oppression, and separation. Also, the Proclamation affected the two countries through conciliation in the US and negotiating treaties in Canada. Therefore, the two countries are allies in the war due to continentalism and the urge for growth and development.
