The data regarding the community correction statistics across different years in the United States was acquired from the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), which samples the data from the information provided in the Annual Probation Survey and the Annual Parole Survey. This data is crucial in helping study the crime trends in the US, as well as helping establish the efficiency of adopting the community corrections (probation and parole) approach when compared to the traditional incarceration approach. The trend studied is mainly between the years 2008-2018 and 2017-2018. To help understand and assess this data, it is important to first create a data table, that can easily indicate the statistics across the different years, to help study the trend and determine the efficiency and need to embrace the community corrections approach of managing crimes in the United States.
Through data tables created in this study, one is likely to not only compare the statistics of the community correction crime management technique; but also, with the aspect of the traditional incarceration approach to help determine the most efficient and cost-effective way of handling offenders. This is in addition to guiding the process of correcting and re-integrating them into the society. Categorizing the data into parole and probation and incarceration sections while providing annual statistics in an important approach of analyzing the findings in this study, because such an arrangement enhances the ease of comparing the data and creating trends.

This research is relevant, valid and viable, because it uses official data provided by the police department, mandated with the management of offenders. The police are tasked with the development of the community corrective programs, while also providing statistics to help ascertain the efficiency of the crime management approaches over time. Additionally, this study was also anchored on peer-reviewed studies, such as that of Kaeble & Alper (2020), who indicated that populations under parole and probation declined in the year 2018, when compared to the statistics in the year 2017. This study is also relevant because it will help bridge gaps in research, such as the determination of the efficiency of the community correction approach vis-à-vis the traditional incarceration technique of managing offenders.
After the collection of the data, it was processed into tables to help compare the statistics across the years of concern and develop trends. The end user can easily read the data tables and observe whether the crime rates or populations under the different crime management systems dropped or increased from one year to another. The data table in this study providing information regarding community correction (probation and parole) statistics and the traditional incarceration crime management systems will largely help the end user understand and evaluate the crime trends in the US within the selected period.
