On the hierarchy of evidence, the study above falls under level 1 that is a systematic review. A systematic review entails the collection and critical analysis of empirical data that meets the set criteria (Burns, Rohrich, & Chung, 2011). Patel et.al (2018) case study concentrated on data mining, selection, and extraction from previous studies that addressed the issue of chronic diseases. Their study used abstracts from previous studies to obtain all relevant data for their research, which was then analyzed and validity determined. For this reason, Patel et.al (2018) study is termed as level 1 since it entailed systematic analysis of applicable past studies to give their verdict on the subject matter.

The study by Li et.al (2018) can be described as qualitative in nature. First, the research relied entirely on three main case studies, which are Nurses’ Health Study, Health Professionals Follow-up Study and National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys to determine their claim that lifestyle factors have an impact on life expectancies. All three studies that Li et.al (2018) relied on are secondary sources. It is for this reason, the research falls under qualitative study.

The study falls under the level V hierarchy of evidence. The researchers carried out Meta-synthesis review of three main case studies to address their research question. The three studies that Li et.al (2018) relied on were surveys conducted by the different researchers to ascertain their claims. The findings of the three studies on the issue of lifestyle impact on people life expectancies are what Li et.al (2018) based their argument and conclusion. The fact that Li et.al (2018) research mainly relied on a systematic review of three case studies makes their study fall under level V hierarchy of evidence.
