Answer for Question 1

Within criminal justice, the scientific approaches to studying of crimes are associated with errors both at the personal social scientist and as a group of scientists (Holmes & Taggart, 2017). As a result, Social scientific research methods serve various purposes with different implications. Foremost, much research in criminal justice aims to explore specific problems, such as policy issue, drug abuse concern, or drug arrests (Maxfield & Babbie, 2011). Such explorations require survey methods to estimate the levels of problems under study. The second general purpose of criminal justice research is to describe the scope of a policy response or crime to a problem (Maxfield & Babbie, 2011). In most cases, descriptive research majors on documenting or counting observations, and eventually develops a rudimentary understanding of an unusual or a new problem. Third, criminal justice research purposes of explaining matters policy and security. According to Maxfield and Babbie (2011), criminal justice researchers also conduct studies to apply results and findings to certain policy instruments.

Answer for Question 2

A good example of exploratory research is when researchers conduct studies on an innovative method of policing. In the case of descriptive research, an example is when researchers use case studies to acquire information that officers from other areas may use to combat crime. For explanatory research, a typical example is when researchers conduct studies to determine the attitudes of urban dwellers towards police officers, and the reason why some believe these officers are doing great job. Applied research, on the other hand, may involve researches evaluating the effects of a particular criminal justice program.

Answer for Question 3

The unique research purposes imply that these approaches are mutually inclusive. Most of the research methods contain aspects of various purposes. Take an example where police want to probe the case of a car robbery on a restaurant’s car park. Information that illustrates the problem of car robbery is necessary. Assuming that the findings show increased incidents of car robberies at the car park. Researchers might explain these findings that the restaurant lacks security guards at the car park, and the best approach to reduce such cases would be to deploy security guards in the area to guard cars at the park.

Answer for Question 4

In this scenario, descriptive research would be the best approach to apply. The reason for the method is because the task involves describing the scope of the security problem by identifying the location of the highest crime areas.
