The one major finding was that first time parents gave birth to extremely premature twins, most before 26 weeks of the gestational period. The twin who appeared weakest depicted high rate of instability within the first ten to twelve days and the parent was informed that the child had low chances of survival. However, twelve days would suddenly change the situation and the stronger kid became very sick and died within fifteen days from the day of birth. The parents’ experience of losing one twin generates three major theme. The first theme is associated with the difficulties in understanding the linguistic and cultural discourse within NICU. The second theme involves the continuity of interactions as a way of enhancing the quality of relations between parents and the nurses. The third theme entails the internal and external hardships experienced by the parents in their bid to take full responsibility for the twin who survives.

The authors have offered adequate data through which can figure out the outcomes of the experiment. The experiences of the mothers in their interactions with nurses are vivid. The technology used in the hospital, such as alarms and ventilators, were the main source of difficulty in parental understanding of the linguistic and cultural discourse in the medical context. The struggle to take full responsibility for the surviving infant arose from the incubation of the infant as this created physical and emotional barrier and one had to seek permission before taking the infant from the incubator.

The data presented herein entailed transcripts of what the parents had to say during the interview. The data presented by the authors aligns with the thematic concerns chosen. The implication is that the authors did not offer the information given by the parents during the interview.

While the author offers a solution in alignment with two themes, they do not offer a solution in alignment with the parents taking full responsibility for the surviving infant.
