The Rock the Vote website is a platform for advocating for youth voting rights. Rock the Vote is an organization that came into being in 1988 through an initiative of music industry stars. It recruits volunteers for voting campaigns with branches across the country. I find the website more of a campaign tool where celebrities and participants come together to engage young people in an effort to have them registered and be legible to vote. The fact that the website or organization champions for young people’s voting rights does not necessarily represent the young people’s interests. Its main objective is to provide civic education through volunteers, use of technology, research, and collection of data. The organization seeks to create a culture where young people are involved in deciding who their political leaders are. An organization that champions for young people’s interests should be giving the youth information and gateway to opportunities for them that are specifically of benefit to the youth other than just campaigning for their participation in voting.

The site offers important information that one should have as a young voter. Some of the main processes it gives information on includes automatic voter registration, election day voter registration, voting rights, accessibility for voters with disabilities, voting rules, regulations and restrictions, absentee voting, online voter registration, and early voting opportunities, and interstate voter rolls, among other voting issues. The site gives volunteer opportunities, customizable technologies, and civic education content to young people who feel the need to take action and become brand ambassadors. I understand and indeed credit the organization for realizing that this generation tends to neglect such important patriotic duty hence the need for the advocacy. While I agree with the site’s important initiative to educate and advocate for the participation of young people in civic processes such as voting, I do not find anywhere it represents the interest of this class of the population.
