The quality of healthcare care services is determined by its ability to address the exact medical needs of patients. The appropriateness of medical services in a society entirely depend on the health issues affecting the majority of people in that particular area. Medical issues vary from one age group to another, and are determined by the culture of the people. For instance, adults in the African American culture are more prone to obesity and other ailments related to inadequate nutrition. Notably, this population needs information on how they can enhance their health. This will enable them to attain generally good health. Therefore, an analysis of the promotion of nutrition and physical activities to avert obesity through adults meeting aerobic physical and muscle-strengthening undertakings among African Americans is of essence.

Nutrition, Physical Activities, and Obesity among Adult African Americans

According to Brewer and others in 2016, the majority of African Americans lead a poor nutritional life. Hence, only less than 1% of these people have a healthy recommended diet (Brewer et al., 2016). The concept of nutrition, physical activity, and obesity entails the management of a healthy lifestyle by exercising and taking proper diet. Adults in this society are characterized by a diminishing immune system and economic productivity. Therefore, this population needs help on how they can curb obesity and other ailments caused by their state of being inactive and taking poor diet. There is a need for them to indulge in taking a proper diet and be physically active for their bodies to attain the necessary nutrients for better health. In the long-run, they will be able to evade nutrition-related ailments such as obesity. Usually, people’s physical and mental well-being is related to what they eat and drink.

The Relationship between the Promotion of Nutrition and Physical Activities to Avert Obesity among African Americans and Healthy People 2020 Objectives

First, the promotion and Healthy People 2020 have the core objective of enhancing the access of people to quality nutrition. The project aims to achieve this by offering vital insights and knowledge on the essence of proper diet, and how this is connected to their health. Also, like Healthy People 2020, the project seeks to prevent inappropriate weight gain among adult African Americans in society by encouraging them to exercise regularly and eating the right kinds of foods that do not support weight gain. Many African Americans need information to alleviate the issue of obesity and any medical condition caused by poor nutrition. According to Ogden et al (2016), African Blacks have an obesity prevalence rate of 48.1%. They have the highest prevalence than whites who have 34.5%, Asians have 11.7%, while the Hispanic community has 42.5%. The issue is widely attributed to poor nutrition and a dormant lifestyle (Ogden et al., 2016). Thus, the topic is worth being examined and a solution for this health situation established among the African American community.

Summary and Application of the Article “Residential Segregation and Overweight/Obesity among African-American Adults: A Critical Review”

The article examines the prevalence of obesity among various races in the U.S. It was established that African American adults have a higher prevalence of acquiring obesity than any other race. Secondly, the level of nutrition has a significant impact on the prevalence of obesity among all populations (Corral et al., 2015). Notably, African Americans are a disadvantaged lot due to discrimination. Hence, they have a generally low income than the rest of the races implying that meeting their nutritional needs becomes hard. Basing on the article’s findings, I will provide the African American adults with information concerning the need to incorporate proper diet in their meals for healthy living. In this case, I will encourage them to be more aggressive on matters to do with healthy living by ensuring a proper diet. Despite being economically disadvantaged, they also have to ensure an active life by walking, jogging, riding bicycles, and running. If implemented, the population will be able to improve their diet quality and evade dormant lifestyles. Consequently, they will be able to lower the prevalence rate of obesity.

Approaches to educate Adult African Americans about Nutrition, Physical Activities, and Obesity

Education and awareness campaigns concerning nutrition, physical activities, and obesity in society ought to be employed. In executing the plan, open forums would be organized in all areas dominated by African Americans. In this case, data about the level of dominance of obesity among African Americans will be likened with other races for them to see the discrepancies. After that, they will be shown the consequences of neglecting the ideal nutrition, and how obesity can adversely impact their health (Coughlin & Smith, 2016). Moreover, they will be educated on the need to participate in aerobics and muscle-strengthening activities. Some of the aerobics activities for them would include walking briskly, bicycling, gardening, running, dancing, and jumping ropes. On the other hand, they would be encouraged to use elastic bands, body weights, do push-ups, or climb trees to strengthen their muscles.

To wind up, suggestions on how they can improve the situation and lower the prevalence rate of obesity among them would be given. For example, the group would be encouraged to have a balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, proteins, and carbohydrates. Also, the floor would be left open to allow for responses to queries raised by those in attendance. Further explanations would also be given using graphical and pictorial aids to elaborate on the points including how they can cheaply obtain balanced diets even on a limited budget. Regarding the culturally sensitive approach, it is vital for both sexes to engage in executing their role in the improvement of the economic status of their families for them to be able to afford quality diets. Notably, both men and women would be encouraged to work towards better nutrition to lower obesity prevalence in society.

Conclusion

The African American adult community in the U.S. has a high obesity prevalence rate than whites, Hispanics, and Asians. They are also much disadvantaged since they have a lower economic income than all other races. Normally, the level of income is directly proportional to the quality of a person’s diet. As such, the health promotion in the locality will aim at providing the African American adult community with information concerning the prevalence of obesity and how they can solve the issue. They will be educated on how to eat proper balanced diets and pursue physical activities by meeting aerobic physical and muscle-strengthening activities.
