In the scenario provided there are more than four alleged crimes that are committed which include a lady claiming to have been robbed, Jones a police officer shooting a suspect, medical practitioners taking long to arrive and serve life and lady and husband who fought. Thus in this discussion, the principles of criminal justice will be applied to the scenario provided and other question asked will be answered as well.
The principle of one remaining innocent until proven guilty is violated ( Maffei, 2018 ). This can be seen where Jones, a police officer shots a suspect. The suspect nearly resembled all that the lady had described because he had a white Pant and dark shirt which is different from the one that the lady had described and this man was taller. Jones though an officer was not justified to shot this man because despite the similarity he was to investigate the matter first for the suspect had not yet been proven guilty. This principle protects a suspect against unreasonable doubts that s/he is accused of. Thus, accusing a person to police or court doesn’t give all evidence that the person is guilty.

The other principle is that of providing evidence that the defendant is guilty ( Maffei, 2018 ) this is because the judges and the juries have to be convinced that truly the defendant is guilty. This is violated by the officer because he does not forward the case to the next level but take the actions instantly and immediately to the suspected who is not guilty. This principle applies to all courts and in other cases, the defendant should provide evidence of the case an example is insanity. However this was not followed, it could be that Jones’ was insane something that was later discovered that the supported shot was innocent and the lady was proven liar for she had not been attached.
The principle of remaining silent, ( Maffei, 2018 ) this is where the suspect is not required to respond to the police’s questions, but there some special occasions where some questions could be answered like the name and address of the person committing the offence. In the scenario provided Jones a police officer does not ask this either doe he ask the name and address of the lady reporting the matter he just calls the medical practitioners after the lady giving him some description of what should be investigated.
The fourth principle is that of double jeopardy ( Maffei, 2018 ), where no one is entitled to suffer twice for the same offence. In the scenario, the man shot by Jones suffers for the same offence twice. This is clear where this man is shot and latter investigations are carried out and are conducted and he is not found guilty. The procedure is that this man was to be taken to the court before being shot and after he is proven guilty the punishment to be admitted was to be determined.
Jones is responsible for shooting this man who he had doubting but was not having enough evidence of the. All the injuries that he did to this man he should apologize and pay for them. According to the civil liability, ( Burke, 2018 ) Jones has to pay monetary value for shooting this innocent man. Another example is that medical practitioners took long time to arrive at the scene where the police officer had called them to rush and serve lives of the two people, this is the lady who had home violence and was beaten by the husband but she had lied to the officer that she was robbed by an armed robber who had a firearm and the other man who was dressed nearly to what the lady had explained to the police offer.
These people were in pain though we cannot establish the amount to be paid for the pain that this two were in was much and practitioner should be asked to pay for the delayed services because the lives of these would be lost. Jones as a police officer is working in an environment that is not safe but this does not permit him to shot people without evidence ( Burke, 2018 ). According to me, Jones should be arrested, this is because as an officer he has been trained on how to handle every scenario, I don’t think there is a situation that allows a police officer to kill without reason and evidence. Thus Jones has violated the rules and principles that should not be by shooting an innocent man. The law has its procedure which should not be broken.
All people are entitled to protection ( Burke, 2018 ) but if those that are to protect the people are the ones killing them then the law has no meaning and should be abolished. Other measures should be put in place to ensure that there is some security in the city. This could include adding more police officers in the area because as seen in the scenario its Jones alone working. He goes to look at the scene where the lady claimed to have been attacked besides this he is the one making calls to ensure that the medical practitioners come and attend to the people that have been affected, the lady and the man.
This is not the only thing he does but he also patrols alone a clear indication that the city needs more police officers to ensure that there is enough security to the city members. The police department should be asked to remind their members not to use live bullets in solving cases and handling suspects who haven’t been proven guilty. A proper investigation should be carried out to ensure that matters are solved and better solutions arrived at ( Burke, 2018 ).
