Produced and directed by Alfred Hitchcock in 1958, the film Vertigo narrates the story of a man who suffers vertigo not just physically due to acrophobia, but also symbolically when he falls in love with a factious woman. Throughout the movie, Alfred highlights the cynical and perplexing nature of vertigo clearly with powerful pictorial images and mysterious soundtrack, and also conceptually with symbolism and reappearances. This essay will evaluate, critiques, and analyze the movie Vertigo, a film that has stood the test of time, and how the movie accompaniment contribute to what Alfred aimed to achieve when he produced it.

The film opens with a close of a human eye in which there emerges a spinning, entrancing shape that is accompanied equally by soothing music. The first shot hints that visual images will form part and parcel of the movie that will take the audience and characters alike to the fantasy world. In no time, the audience is introduced to the world of the eye, gazing, and seeing; a place where the movies occur and about which it tells.
