According to the People online magazine published on September 1, 2018, Morgan Freeman, a renowned actor and media personality is set to resume his television series after an end to sexual harassment investigation (Morgan Freeman to Resume Work on TV Series after Sexual Harassment Investigation). His show, known as “The Story of God” was earlier this year put on hold after allegations of sexual harassment. Media coverage of sexual harassment has beneficial impacts because it keeps the conversation ongoing. Research shows that up to 72% of sexual harassment cases go unreported (Chavkoska, 2016). Some of the reasons cited for the widespread underreporting include denial, shame, and fear of consequences. Media coverage creates awareness and rallies law enforcers against the vice.

First, the employer has an ethical obligation to conduct a sexual harassment investigation and make conclusions based on the truth. It is also vital to note that relieving an employee of the duties based on mere sexual harassment accusation is not illegal. The employer in most circumstances finds themselves obliged towards crediting the accuser rather than the accused (Chavkoska, 2016). If the employer covers information on the real harassment incident, then they risk liability. Ethically, an employee under investigation is required to step down and allow the investigation to continue in the hope of clearing their names. Other employees are also expected to act as witnesses wherever applicable.

Several risk management strategies and procedures should be implemented to reduce sexual harassment claims in the workplace. One of the ways is to review the internal procedures and policies of the workplace organization regarding sexual harassment (Chavkoska, 2016). The workplace organization must also focus on thorough training to ensure that employees are conversant with the ethical guidelines that promote respect, decency, and dignity. The company must ensure that it strengthens its whistle blowing policy to ensure that all cases regarding sexual abuse are promptly reported to the relevant stakeholders. Lastly, the human resource department must be strengthened through capacity building to investigate all claims.
