There are six major factors affecting implementation of evident-based practice in nursing and they include;

Lack of systematic research resources

There is inadequate up-to-date technology on EBP and resources which nurses can use in acquiring information. Technical resources and internet-based research tools are instrumental in ensuring successful implementation of EBP but they are limited or unavailable in most facilities (Tacia, 2015).

Inadequate professional skills and knowledge

Even with more years of experience, nurses still lack relevant skills and information regarding EBP which should be provided in learning facilities and nursing forums. Some nurses lack basic knowledge of EBP and there are few graduate practitioners with degrees in the nursing profession.

Poor motivation

Many nurses lack enough motivation to initiate and offer evident-based motivation, caused by management failure or ignorance of the values attributed to nurses motivation in respective facilities. Self-motivation so initiate EBP is a common hindrance to the implementation of EBP as most nurses are not inspired to adopt different programs especially as they are already entrenched into facility cultures.

Time management

Establishing and implementing EBP programs such as research is time-consuming and labor-intensive . This results to work overload on nurses which leads them to choose their usual healthcare systems over EBP, therefore, making implementation unrealistic.

Conflicting values among physicians and patients

This relates to an organizational culture which most nurses are used to develop in each care center , therefore, causing a disadvantage in the implementation of EBP. Also, patient and nurses attitudes towards change is often a barrier as most people do not like the switch of delivery techniques (Majid, 2011).

Lack of collaboration

There is evidence of limited inter-disciplinary communication in planning and implementation of evident-based practice to ensure all the stakeholders understand and prepare adequately for change and relevant skills required.
