This Health Assessment course has helped to further my knowledge and skills as a Registered Nurse. The nursing activities consists of six stages: assessment, nursing diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation (Estes, 2014), and this course has helped me to really focus on these skills. The world of nursing will continue to grow and change as research continues to bring us the latest in evidenced based practices. Though I felt that I always approached all of my patients holistically I have learned to do it more thoroughly to meet all the needs of my patient.

I have learned through the course, Advanced Human Physical Assessment, to determine the abnormalities within clients and formulate a list of issues that may need further investigation. I feel that this course has also helped me to develop my skills of therapeutic communication with my clients and also the interdisciplinary team. It has also helped me to adapt better to the ever changing roles in the health sector and also social services.

I’d have to say that my greatest area of interest was assessing the health assessment needs and risk factors of special populations. I currently work in a skilled rehab center and I find that many of these patients are at risk for so many things. Cognitive impairment makes many of them very vulnerable. We may be the only interaction that these clients have. We have to be the voice for these clients so that their basic needs are met.
