Various reasons cause social change. Scientists have identified four of the most important causes that include population, environment, social institutions, and technology. However, in other cases, people in the society could be reluctant to change in what is referred to as the resistance to social change. Resistance to social change is often tied to the interests of those who will suffer in the event of a social change. Those resisting social change would rather work with what is retained in the status quo. In my life, there are certain social, economic, or cultural factors that I would have vested interest in maintaining a status quo because I felt that the change would be more detrimental than beneficial.
With regards to the social change, the factor that I would have resisted is the institution of gender roles. The social change in this sector has seen the degradation of this institution which enhanced discipline and ensured that everybody was cognizant of the role they played in the family and the society at large. However, the change experienced has destroyed the traditional roles of both men and women hence leading to more confusion and conflict.

The economic factor that I would have resisted is the introduction of socialism because of its negative implications that include less entrepreneurial opportunity, less competition, and slow economic growth. In its place, I would have rather remained with capitalism which can guarantee economic growth and competition. With regards to the cultural aspect, the factor that I would have highly resisted is the shift from traditional families to more modern families where the children do not necessarily stay with their biological parents. I would have maintained the traditional family because it is important in raising the child and ensures that either of the parents makes their contributions towards the children.
