The knowledge of intersection of religion, class and gender among others is important for the understanding of the topic because they are categories under which people isolate themselves forming separations from the rest of the populations which are not part of them. Through the knowledge of intersection it is possible to understand the rationale behind people putting themselves in certain groups which make them distinct from others, it is enables the scholars to explore the unique features that defines a specific group. It helps in establishing the preferences and dislikes of people which make them describe themselves as belonging to a particular group and not the other. To better understand social division it is crucial that the intersection of all divisions is established to know the similarities and differences.

Intersection knowledge also provides an insight into knowing the origins of certain principles beliefs and practices. For instance it helps in understanding why a given practices certain doctrines while another does not. It is also vital because the knowledge of intersection of various groups helps a researcher to compare and contrast certain beliefs and practices. Additionally it stirs up the need to know the genesis of different divisions and how they came to be strong in certain societies. For instance how the concept of gender came to be in existence and how it is understood and practiced in the society. It is important to note that social divisions are several and each category was established because of certain principles or values created by people in the old times and have been passed down from one generation to another. Social division knowledge is therefore essential as it helps in bringing an understanding on how each category differ based on their value systems.
