A primary group refers to a small social group with members sharing personal and close enduring relationships. Primary group members exchange implicit items like caring, love, support, concern, and many others. On the other hand, secondary groups are larger groups associated with impersonal and goal-oriented relationships ( Finlay et al., 2018). Secondary group members do interact more on a personal level as compared to individuals belonging to a primary group. Besides, the relationship is more temporary than the one for the secondary group.

Based on the primary and secondary group description, the primary group has dramatically affected my socialization process. The socialization process has influenced family members who are part of the primary group; they have always acted as socialization agents and still want to be part of the decisions affecting my social life. As a primary group member, my mother has been very crucial in sharpening my life, particularly my social life.

Both the primary and secondary values and beliefs have significantly influenced my behavior. For instance, in the primary group case, I have learned to be concerned about others and spemd long of time with others. The primary group has also influenced the development of my ability. Though secondary, my knowledge about others has reduced and has become less emotional.

Secondary groups are more influential in the United States because most people tend to have a more generalized relationship with little concerns about personal life. The majority of people tend not to follow ones’ personal life. Most people tend to engage in goal-oriented and impersonal groups. Secondary groups are functional because they aim at achieving a particular purpose within society.
