Structural functionalists perceive society as a whole depending on culture, customs, and all social aspects such as gender. The theory describes gender inequality as an issue that arises due to the need for the division of labor (Kendall, 2011). The approach further analyzes gender as an entity that leads to social stability since women take care of homes while men provide for their families. Social-conflict describes the need for dominance in society. It reflects on the patriarchal society where men require dominance in the families and the communities in general. Symbolic internationalism dwells on the symbols that determine the behavior of human beings in the interactions process (Kendall, 2011). It defines masculinity and femininity behaviors towards interactions with each other. All these sociological perspectives depend on the issues in the society in their descriptions of human behavior. They all dwell on an individual’s dominance in the community and their relations with gender.
Divorce rates in the United Stars of America have been on the rise for the last five decades. African Americans and the Native white Americans are the subgroups that have recorded an increase in divorce cases. The rise in the number of women's liberation movements and the increase in the number of women participating in different labor forces have led to the change of roles (Kendall, 2011). Infidelity, lack of perfect communication and family values are also some aspects that have led to the high rates of divorce among the two subgroups. The decrease in the stigma against singlehood due to counseling and support groups has contributed to many single parents arising from divorce cases. They lead to instability in families and different behaviors of children positively or negatively depending on the reason for the divorce. Among native white Americans, infidelity is the leading cause of divorce. On the other hand, African Americans divorce due to poverty, violence and drug abuse cases.
