Ongoing learning is important for all graduating social work students. There are extensive ranges of social work values and skills that that are significant in providing supervision. Every social worker is required to be efficient and understand his or her work. in my case, I have several areas that I believe I am competent and strong, the areas include performance appraisal and evaluation, ability to use critical thinking in policy making, ability to demonstrate professional behavior and ethical standards. However, I may need more information in areas that deal with diversity and difference, conflict resolution skills and capacity to apply practice safety issues.
NYS Department of Education is responsible for setting education standards and competence for social workers. On the other hand, ASWB is a body that is responsible for licensing and regulation. The purpose of ASWB is to offer licensing and certification for social workers by identifying the standards of safe professional practice for social workers. The NYS Department of education competencies for the social worker and ASWB guidelines compare since both organizations have a similar goal. For both organizations, professionalism is core. Nevertheless, the guidelines of the two organizations overlap with CSWE competencies, which describe the core competence of social work practice. CSWE requires social workers to apply ethics, critical thinking, and diversity, advance practices that support economic and social justice in addition to engaging in policy practice.

In any profession, continuous learning is significant, for a social worker continued learning allows an individual to better grounds themselves as they move into professional practice. In my case, I will ensure that I engage in learning that would promote continued education that would be specific to the practice setting.
