Secondly, Southwest Airlines encourages its employees to deliver greater customer service and at the same time, have fun at work (Dan & Xinde, 2014). This strategic approach increases the organization's effectiveness of Southwest Airlines. This is because it helps the airline company provide best in class customer service to its clients. More to this is that the strategy allows its employees to enjoy their work, keeping them motivated.

The other strategic approach adopted by Southwest Airlines company is that the company's HRM is named the "People Department" (Dan, 2014). More to this is that the organization focuses on two C’s: Compassion and common sense (Dan & Xinde, 2014). Thus, the company values their employees more. This increase the organization effectiveness of the Southwest Airline as it empowers the employees, making them work harder towards the organizational goals of the company.

Propose three ways that HR can use a competitive advantage in the marketplace to recruit new applicants in general.

HR can use a competitive advantage in the marketplace to recruit new applicants in numerous ways. One of the most effective ways is to hire through referrals (Petrone, 2015). Instead of seeking help from an outside organization, companies can let their employees refer individuals or colleagues to work in the organization. The second most effective way is to use proven online platforms such as LinkedIn. The third most effective way of hiring applicants is to use advertisements. However, this is more expensive when compared to the first two.
