Most policy application fields use statistical data. In particular, healthcare is one field that uses statistical data to generate evidence-based policy and practice. This paper supports the fact that the application of statistics in healthcare is crucial for health promotion, quality, safety, and leadership. Our Nursing Home Sub-acute organization has to collect data that is crucial in carrying out the daily practices and making decisions.

Statistics in health care

In healthcare, statistical data aims to provide the support that will ensure accessibly, high quality, and low-cost health care service to health improvement for the entire population (Gerritis et al., 2019). Gerritis et al. (2019) also add that applying statistics on healthcare and health constitutes a crucial base in providing evidence for health-related policies.

Statistics is used in undertaking managerial functions when the figures act as a crucial instrument in making decisions. For example, mobility in children debates can be well supported using the percentage of children who have received physical activity recommendations. Findings have been used in arguing specific policies. The statistics have helped ensure that there are a mandatory number of hours for students to engage in physical education at school. Thus, statistics by itself is the number one determiner of the decisions to be made.

A low percentage of students receiving physical education enabled the decision-makers to recommend several hours for this school activity. Some statistics are also meant to be used managerially among the policymakers, for example, data on hospital mortality rate and bedsore statistics (Gerrities et al., 2019). Therefore, these statistics are crucial for leaders in making decisions that will ensure health promotion and high-quality and safe health care services.

Unsworth (2017) points out that statistics serve a crucial role in decision making in the provision of science to better understand the relationships between the populations and samples. The data enables the description of variability in modeling and observation. The variability helps to understand better the mechanisms, structure, causal attribution, and effect. These inferences are essential not just for understanding the world but also for making future predictions.

How Nursing Home Sub-acute obtains and utilizes statistical knowledge

In our Nursing Home Sub-acute organization, statistical learning is used in improving the health of the population by monitoring specific health characteristics and conditions. Targets and goals are set to assess progress and call for more efforts in areas where needed. Evaluation of the total changes in individual stages on the overall population health also requires statistical data and in-depth analysis of the data (Madams and Weeks 2016).

Also, in our Nursing Home Sub acute organization, statistical data plays a crucial role in enabling safety. We learn various statistical applications and concepts to guide our practice. Knowledge of these statistical data's meaning helps healthcare practitioners develop statistical literacy skills and understand how the evidence applies to training. Also, to engage in evidence-based practice, nurses will provide quality and safe nursing care to patients. These practices are those grounded in the best available statistical and research data. Understanding the EBP that are statically developed is essential for providing safe and quality care to Nursing Home Sub-acute patients.

Statistical data also directly collects the quality of service we provide at Nursing Home Sub-acute. It enables our organization to measure the quality of our healthcare delivery systems. Quality indicators are derived from the clinical data sets in the action system or department database representing various scopes concerning quality control and evaluation.

Statistics have also helped our Nursing Home Sub acute as a professional organization develops a specialty knowledge base. At our hospital, routine and statistical data known as metrics are collected in the care settings. The information is used to determine our service's effectiveness and determine the incidence and prevalence of iatrogenesis. They include the incidence/prevalence and number of healthcare induced infections and patient falls, among other risks. Data is also used to measure patient complaints, pressure ulcers, inadequate nutrition cases, and drug administration errors.

Conclusion

Indeed statistical data plays a crucial role in healthcare service. The main areas where statistical data is used include health promotion, quality safety, and leadership. The paper has also shown how our Nursing Home Sub-acute organization obtains data, use data in decision making, and how this data is used in daily practices.
