Qn. Why is it important that statistical research follow ethical guidelines?

Answer

Firstly, the ethical guidelines are important as they help in the promotion of the goals of the research. The reason behind is that there are some errors that would be avoided in the research. Also, the incidents of data falsification would then be minimized during the research analysis process (Kozak, 2014). Secondly, the ethical guidelines help in the provision of the values needed in the collaboration during the research. The values that are fostered in the process are accountability, fairness and trust. Morals are created as a result of ethical guidelines such as law compliances and social responsibility. For instance, the cases of data sharing and copyright policies designed in the peer review help in the protection of different persons regarding intellectual property issues. Many researchers have made various contributions in different fields and fear their ideas being disclosed prematurely. Thirdly, some ethical guidelines used in the research help in the creation of the accountability spirit to the general public. Additionally, when there are ethical guidelines in the process of research, then different people may help in the research funding.

Answer

When appropriate ethical practice is not followed, then there will be a lot of issues may unfold. Firstly, if unethical cases arise, then the possibility of funding would be impossible from the public. Secondly, the research results would reflect a bias outcome when a researcher were influenced by their expectations. The results would be based on deception other than the real research study. Additionally, there would arise severe matters related to breach of another researcher’s work in case they were not mentioned in what they contributed. The case would land the statistician in law courts based on intellectual property. Also, cases of compromised validity on the statistics would arise. Furthermore, the results of the statistical analysis based on unethical considerations would mislead in policy implementations if any.
