According to Ryan Holiday, stillness is the key to being better at what one does. He looks at stoicism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Epicureanism, and numerous religions and philosophical schools. He illustrates that it is rare and even impossible to get one that does not address stillness as the greater good and the partway to meaningful, thriving life (Holiday, 2019). "And when all the wisdom of the ancient world agrees on something," Holiday writes, "only a fool would decline to listen" Holiday, (2019). This statement from Holiday inspires me a lot. It is hard to ignore something when all the great minds in the world conquer.
In ancient Rome, Seneca's time to obtain stillness meant coping with disturbances filling the Rome streets (Holiday, 2019). The spawning of new ideas and insights is due to stillness, as history suggests (Tolle, 2003). Perspectives are also sharpened through stillness, and also due to stillness, the ball can slow down so that one can hit it (Tolle, 2003). Stillness allows people to succeed, persevere and it is the key to unlock happiness, genius, meaning (Tolle, 2003). The above quote from Holiday's Stillness is the key that inspired me to read the book and comprehend the aspects discussed by Holiday as they are mind-blowing since they spark one thinking ability (Tolle, 2003). Indeed only a fool would decline to listen, and therefore it is essential to understand that stillness brings calmness to bring out the inner best of an individual (Holiday, 2019). In life, sports, art ability to loosen up, let go, tension-releasing is people's obsession with outcomes (Holiday, 2019). Thinking better and clear is enhanced by the stillness that prevents thinking hard, hindering innovation (Holiday, 2019). Despite living busy lives today, we should embrace stillness to allow easy flow of thoughts hence facilitating creativity.
