Ethics and integrity play a critical role in an individual’s behavior. These concepts guide one’s life and determine the type of relationships he or she develops with other people. They are often useful in establishing moral behavior that ensures a person maintains scholarly intelligences and develops professionalism at an early stage. It is why every person needs to identify and develop strategies that promote academic integrity and foster professional ethics.
Academic integrity requires one to act in honesty and be guided by moral principles. Writing takes up a significant part of academics as one would need to develop various academic works through writing as they learn. Academic integrity acts as the backbone in developing honest, original and moral work. Often, learning institutions have in place a set of rules and standards that determine academic integrity. It means that these rules are what students and writers will use to develop work that is original and honest. Therefore without academic integrity, honest and original writing would not be possible. Lack of integrity at the academic level which eventually affect one’s ability to exercise integrity at the professional level (Glasper, 2016).

Scholarly ethics are impacted in one while in pursuant of academic excellence. It means that while one engages in serious academic study, he or she does not only acquire knowledge but also learns how to conduct oneself in an ethical manner. Scholarly engagement is a necessary step in ones endeavor for a certain profession. It is an indication that the scholarly ethics one acquires while learning will guide his or her professional behavior. These ethics do not only determine moral behavior and integrity while one is still student but also help guide the individual’s professional practices to ensure that they are moral and guided by integrity. Professional practices guided by ethics result in smooth collaboration with other nurses when in the working environment (Hoskins, Grady & Ulrich, 2018).
As a student of the MSN program and as a professional nurse, I am and will be guided by my personal values, principles and scholarly and professional ethics. My personal values such as honesty, genuineness and commitment would help maintain the required level of integrity and moral behavior as a student and eventually as a professional nurse. As a student, I am governed by scholarly ethics that require honesty and moral behavior in all scholarly activities. As a professional nurse, I will be guided by the nursing code of ethics in both word and action. The available resources to ensure integrity and ethical behavior are the current scholarly ethics developed by my school and the nursing code of ethics.
It is clear that ethical and moral behavior is developed from when one is a student and this type of behavior will eventually affect how he or she conducts themselves in the professional environment. It is clear that academic integrity, scholarly ethics and professional practices represent intertwined aspects in one’s educational and professional advancement and they will determine how the individual relates with colleagues and those he or she cares for professionally.
