Striking oil in Leduc: The Beginning of Alberta’s Oil Boom

The article focuses on the discovery of oil in Leduc Canada and how the discovery changed the lives of those living there. The article tells us about the ordeal the miners had to go through before they could finally find the oil. The miners led by Hunter who was an expert and looking for oil wells had been digging around in the wrong places where all they found was dust. After digging for a while, they finally decided to look for oil in Alberta (Bonikowsky, 2013). While there they started digging. There were however many challenges endured during the experience. The people had to work all through winter in a town which had a lot of wind — something which in the winter is the most significant disadvantage. After digging for a while and nearly giving up, they decided to give it one last effort (Bonikowsky, 2013). It proved to be the best decision they ever made. They finally found the oil they were looking for. This oil was in so much quantity that by the end they had dug up over 240 million barrels of oil. It even propelled the country to become the 10th best oil producing country in the world.

While developing the article the author's ideas were to tell people about the history of oil in Alberta. The idea was that it was not easy to discover this oil and it took them a lot of determination to discover the oil. When they finally discovered It was worth the struggle. According to me, the author takes a lot of pride in the fact that that discovery changed a lot about Canada. To her, this was one of the best things that could have happened to Canada. It propelled it to the 20th best oil producing company in the world. To the author, this helped balance the competition between the west. This article is related to this course since it tells us about the history of Alberta as well as informing us about what the earth in that place benefited the residents of both Alberta and Canada as a whole.
