The society as a whole is made up of people with different characters. There exist smaller and distinct groups in the society, which are known for a particular ordeal, which brings them together. A subculture best describes such societal groups that exist inside the society. Social patterns in a community relate to the activities and likelihood of certain events that occur in the society. Various Subcultures in the society, are often found to be associated with certain activities and events in the society. Some subcultures are associated with crime and delinquencies more often than others. There are those who are considered to be perpetrators and are often caught in the acts of crime. At the same time, other societal subcultures are always found to be the victims of violence and criminal doings. Some groups in the community often get caught and taken to prisons, as compared to other groups. Women commit particular crimes more often than men. This paper will attempt to explain the different social patterns concerning the topic of subculture and crimes.

The term subculture refers to a particular group in the society that shares certain values, norms and interests. Examples of societal subcultures include youth cultures, regional cultures, ethnic cultures, those that are associated with particular occupations and those that develop between among people who share interests. A criminal or delinquent behaviour pattern is an example of a subculture that develops as a result of shared interests. Criminal subculture may include pickpockets, rapists, and robbers among others. The norms and interests of people in criminal subcultures revolve around illegal activities. Professional criminals, for instance, take pride in their crimes and their way of living. Members of a criminal group have inclined purposes and similar interest ( Akers, 2011) .

Perpetrators

Perpetrators are those individuals charged or caught on the act criminal activities. Statistics show which subcultures are most likely to be found in criminal acts. On the comparison based on gender, men commit more crimes as compared to women. Men have always been charged with criminal acts much more than females. According to Miller, Schreck and Tewksbury (2011) , the majority of the crimes are connected to men, more than they are to women. For example, on the issue of rape and child sexual abuse, men have always been reported to have been linked with such cases.

A recent report on child sexual abuse confirmed that the delinquents were overwhelmingly males all the way from teenagers to seniors. For women, the statistics say that, in the sexual abuses of boys, the percentage of female abusers was 14 percent. Female abusers on the cases reported among girls summed up to 6 percent. Of the total proportion of women offenders, about 33 percent were juvenile between the ages of sixteen and eighteen. The reports conveyed that, 23 percent of the total number of child sexual abusers consist of individuals below the age of eighteen. Advanced research reports indicated that of the total number of perpetrators of child sexual abuse, 15 percent might commit sexual delinquents after a span of five years. Of all the reported child abuse cases, slightly more than 6 percent were sexually abused . More studies and research also reported that a majority of juvenile sex offenders were at one time, themselves victims of sexual assault.

There are many other criminal reports and statistics to show what societal subculture is on the rise concerning criminal acts or delinquents. Different subcultures may be compared and noted down to see what categories of people are associated with what forms of crime. For instance, aspects such as ethnicity and race may be used to show what ethnic group or race is associated with which kind of crime.

According to the report mentioned above, the victims here are young children. Having sexual relationships with children below the age of eighteen is considered as child sexual abuse. In the report, a bigger percentage of the victims were girls. Analysis according to race confirmed that the majority of the victims were white children.

Incarceration

Incarceration refers to the form of punishment or rehabilitation for criminals who are taken to prisons. The United States has some of the largest prisons in the world with high numbers of prisoners. In the US, there exist three major distinct groups of people; the blacks, the whites and the Latinos. Among the three races, reports have shown that the blacks are more likely to be associated with incarcerations more than any other race. A recent study of incarceration rates showed that the population of black criminals was bigger than that of the two other races combined. Indeed, of the total population of the prisons in the United States, the black population is more than half as asserted by Andrews and Bonta (2010) .

There are more male correctional centers and prisons than female prisons. This alone shows that men have the likelihood of getting incarcerated as compared to women. The population of prisons is mainly composed of people of the ages from 25 years. The population of individuals younger than the age of 25 years is smaller. Likewise, younger ladies are found less than women over the age of twenty-five years. Men commit most crimes as compared to women. Juveniles below the ages of eighteen are taken to separate correctional camps. Still, the number of older people in prisons is much larger compared to that of the youth.

Crimes Women Commit More than Males

According to a study, women are more likely to be charged with cases of fraud, burglary, property theft and sexual assaults such as rape. It records that about a third of the female inmates are behind bars on the charges of property theft. Other delinquents associated with women on the rise include drug possession and robbery. The study also records that in the modern day, the number of female prisoners is increasing with the ladies getting involved in crimes that only men use to commit. Downes and McLaughlin (2016) believe that there are many female robbers as men in the modern days.

Gender contract

The gender contract refers to the rules and guideline set to govern gender relations. The set rules and regulations allocate various jobs, responsibilities and obligations to both women and men. Women have for a long time pushed forward the issue of gender equality. Women have always wanted similar opportunities as those proved for men. The gender contract points out precisely on the jobs, responsibility and obligation to men and women regarding the employment opportunities. Women, though, most of the time have to balance between their careers and the motherhood responsibilities.

Conclusion

Society is broad and within it exists groups made up of people who share certain norms such as values, behavior , and interest in particular things or ideas. Criminal subculture refers to the specific groups in the society which are associated with certain criminal acts. Different groups in the society, are associated with certain criminal activities more others. For instance, the blacks in the United States are associated with incarceration more than any other racial group. Some crimes have been realized to involve more women than men.
