Weber’s concept the disenchantment has paid more focus on the gap of the sociology knowledge that has been solved by both science and religion. However, since the existence of the human kind, new researches of the social psychology and personality science have continued to emerge arguing the existence of supernatural beings such as God. Study have that personal imagination of “what might have been” strengthen individuals’ belief in God. This could even be stronger by reflecting on how certain life event could have turned poorly. The sociological studies have shown how believers can come to perceive evidence for their supernatural being through a rational and deliberate cognitive process.

Dr, Anneke Buffone conducted a social study after being intrigued by the question people perceive supernatural beings as trustworthy, active, and influencing their daily lives. Further, the author wanted to understand how some of the past mysteries have been explained scientifically in our modern world. Anneke suggests that understanding of such perceptions, one has to focus on counterfactual thinking of human being. It this kind of thinking that influence people to believe that events cannot occur by chance alone. This leads people to search for the source of this happenings, and in this case supernatural being such as God. In turn, this increases their faith in being behind the occurrence.

Further, this author noted that the strongest effect of believe occurs the thought of events are in a downward counterfactual direction. This means when an individual thinks of how life or situation could have turned out to be worse if a certain event did not occur. For this research conducted Dr, Anneke Buffone aimed at understanding how science through the cognitive process can help in solving sociology knowledge gaps in religion which has a "calling" which is believing in a supernatural being who is God.
