Technology has been used, still being used and has the capability of changing nursing education in the future. The technologies of simulation and virtual worlds will be discussed in this presentation regarding how they have been used in nursing education in the past, present, and future.
Simulation
Nursing education simulation is an upcoming teaching technique where the learners are given the opportunity establish, refine and utilize skills in a real clinical environment as they gain learning experiences meant to fulfill the scholars’ educational requirements. Simulation has been used to give the nursing leaners a chance to exercise their decision making and clinical capabilities in real situations without putting the patient’s safety in danger (Aebersold & Tschannen, 2013). It also allows the learners to make mistakes or errors and gain knowledge from the mistakes. Nurses are also given a chance to exercise their skills in situations that are rare and critical.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
In the past, a lot has been achieved using the simulation learning technique. The simulation has used a tool for examining or measuring the competency level of a clinical student as a way of preparing them for real-life situations. It has been used to boost confidence among the students since they have the opportunity to exercise, get a reply and try several times bearing in mind that the patients are safe (Kim et al., 2016). It has been an efficient and effective way of enhancing the functional capabilities of nursing scholars. Simulation has increased the instructions quality as a way of building better services and improved patient’s safety.
There is a lot more to be explored in the simulation education as far as nursing education is concerned. The simulation will be used both as an integrated tool for assessment and teaching of the clinical leaners. It will also be used to set the basic guidelines or standards for the different types of examination and learning. Simulation future is bright as it could be used to enhance interdisciplinary learning as a primary necessity for the educators of health care. This technology could also be used as apart of the nursing education curricula, fulfill the clinical redesign calls and meet most of the recognized requirements of clinical education.
Virtual Worlds
Virtual worlds are synchronized environments that are digital; this means that they are capable of allowing various learners to engage in a digital space simultaneously. Through the use of a virtual world, the leaners have been able to meet and interact virtually with others in an online environment. It is evident that in the past virtual worlds have been used to enhance the level of collaboration between the learners and tutors, both in teaching based in the classroom or long distance. The universities that offer nursing education have been using this technology as way connecting with the applicants; they are toured around the school from the comfort of their homes.
Virtual worlds are being used by the tutors and lecturers to involve a larger number of scholars than it would be in the real world. It creates new collaboration and learning opportunities compared to a normal world. Also, social worlds offer a wide range of activities and services that are attractive t the nursing students. It is used by the students to learn or learn their practical competencies. This is a great technology that is being used by teachers to reach the physically challenged people or rather the ones with special needs. It means equal opportunities are created for everyone aspiring to take nursing education.
Virtual reality can change the learning of nursing in the future. Virtual worlds can provide the nursing scholars social learning and networking opportunities by the utilization of immersive and collaborative learning (Walia et al., 2018). The students who are struggling will be able to get more assistance and experience quality learning irrespective of their physical or cognitive condition. In the future, the students will get to have a taste of real-life events that occurred in the past. It will increase the students understanding level if they get to watch being explained theoretically.
