In every community, the police often not only a crucial in protecting the community but also set a good example in leadership (Hagan, 2010). The woman was paid almost $1 million to help settle her abuse allegations by the accused parties. After the occurrence of this scandal, the police officers at the Richmond police department gave the law a different meaning when it applied to them (Smaal, 2013). The scandal was not only hurtful to the community struggling to get justice and protection but further deepened the county’s leadership crisis (Lewis, 2018: Miller, 2012).  Unfortunately, there were changes that were made in the department as a result (Laura, 2016).

Conclusion

The unfortunate saga at the Richmond police Department has a put a permanent scar on the police officers working at the department. The accusations make it a failed police department from maintaining the highest professional standards as expected from those who are expected to maintain law and order.
