What program characteristics did you consider when researching possible graduate programs? Before settling for a nursing graduate program, the interviewee conducted rigorous research to come up with the most favorable program with the best characteristics. The interviewee admits that that was a long time ago but remembers settling for Duke University’s nursing programs owing to its reputation for its educational excellence. Duke University is ranked as having the second-best nursing school for Masters in the nursing category, which made it an excellent choice. When asked What graduate degrees did you consider? the interviewee said that she only considered Masters in nursing, as she knew what she wanted from the beginning.

When asked what influenced their decision to pursue a graduate degree, the interviewee said that it was in line with her career and professional objectives. According to the interviewee, the degree would enhance her ability to take care of the patients more independently without having to enlist the help of physicians. Moreover, the degree would help the interviewee to reach a higher level in the nursing career as it translates to more practical and theoretical knowledge. The last question was are you considering further education? If so, what degrees are you considering and why? The interviewee demonstrated a desire to pursue further education by focusing on attaining a Doctorate in Nursing Practice. She was aware of the fact that such a decision would have both advantages and disadvantages. While pursuing a DNP would open numerous opportunities for advancement within her company, it would not automatically translate to salary increment.
