Barack Obama was one of the most charismatic leaders in United States history. In addition to his charisma, Obama had a gift of speech. In many platforms, Obama had a special moment with his speech delivery. One such occasion was his speech during the 2004 DemocraticNational conversion in 2004. The speech came in the wake of time when the country was facing numerous challenges. During this time, the United States was still counting losses after the September 11 attack. Furthermore, the state’s economy was under crisis, and the need for a leader in forging a way forward was eminent. Obama took the stage and gave the people hope of better tomorrow with the forthcoming election only as an obstacle. A critical analysis of the speech showcase the rationale for the speech and why it was of value to the Americans.

The speech Context

The rationale behind the speech was to champion the democratic candidate in the coming presidential election. Obama was behind the presidential candidate Senators John Kerry of Massachusetts and Senator John Edward of North Carolina as the vice president. By then, Obama was a senator from Illinois and was Democrat politically. The purpose of the speech was to urge the fellow democrat supporters to stand as one and vote in Kerry and Edward in the coming election. His end of speech remark underscores the purpose of the speech, Obama's speech towards the end states, "the people will rise in November, and John Kerry will be sworn in as president, and John Edwards will be sworn in as vice president.”

The audiences were not only the Democrats, but every American whose vote could count in the election. Though Obama was addressing a Democratic convention, he was also outlining the hope of a better America for all people. The use of ‘we' and ‘us,' which was eminent during the speech, was particular to emphasize the inclusiveness of the entire issues that were most important for all Americans. In the middle of the address, his emphasis on "the United States of America" and not raced-based or political-based American is evidence of a broader scope of the audience. The speech was in Massachusetts, Boston.

The speech was a highlight of some of the most critical issues that Americans had to tackle for a greater and prosperous future. There are three ways to understand this speech’s content, all of which have a more profound meaning in the United States. The first way is to understand the historical context. In Obama’s speech, he shades light in the Americans' racial days. He further appreciates people who were at the center of delivery Americans out of the dark side, such as Lincoln. The personal history, which is part of his speech, sheds light on milestones America as a nation has made since its independence. Such a historical context was important during this time. The country was suffering from the aftermath of terrorist attacks and the economic crisis. Obama’s speech further highlights the challenges such as economic, racism, culture battle, and wars. Such are the challenges Americans must act smart to defeat. The last part of the speech is the audacity of hope, which would come with Kerry and Edward as president and Vice President.

The Speech’s Impact

Obama's speech at this podium threw him at the center stage of American politics. For most of the political analysts, this was a speech that made Obama the president. Hilary Clinton and other politicians were quick to praise Obama after the address. The speaker of the house Michael Madigan also was full of praises for Obama. The media reaction was at the center stage of propelling Obama’s name. The public was made aware of the name Obamawith praises after the speech. It was a speech that could later act as a foundation for Obama’s presidential campaign in the year 2008.
