Communities are faced with numerous changes that have significant impact not only on economic aspects of a community but also health and wellbeing. One of the notable changes that have had such impact is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. The legislation was aimed at reducing the cost of care while increasing the insurance coverage among the citizens ( Nowak, Eibner, Adamson, & Saltzman, 2013). While the law had the potential of improving the healthcare system in the country, the Trump administration seeks to reverse it and make a replacement with other changes in the care system.

In Texas, the Affordable Care Act resulted to a rise in the uninsured individuals across the state with over five million residents being uninsured. Increasing number of uninsured individuals leads to poor health coverage whose impact is minimal control of the diseases. In the last five years resultant to the declining number of insurance covered individuals across Texas has seen an increase in emerging as well as neglected tropical diseases ( Nowak et al., 2013) . The presence of a long mosquito season in the state has increased the spread of Zika.

Texas has been faced by significant growth in population resulting to rapid urbanization. Additionally, the impacts of globalization are increasingly being felt. The Austin metro area has gained over twenty thousand domestic migrants between 2010 and 2014. Other towns have also experienced population influx. Population increase, urbanization, and globalization have had an impact in the health system. A case of Ebola was reported in 2014 in association with the outbreak of the disease in West Africa ( Ebola | Home, n.d.) . A travel associated case was the first which led to subsequent cases involving nurses. While some of the changes such as globalization are having economic benefits they have negative impacts on health. I would opine that the Affordable Care Act has also had negative impacts since it has reduced the number of insured individuals in the state thus exposing the communities to increased cases of emerging diseases.
