Many Americans hold various opinions concerning the issue of the border wall. Although many people do agree that the border wall needs to be implemented \, some raise the concern of the negative civil rights issues that having a border wall will bring. Supporters of the construction of the wall argue that the building of walls is not something new but historically it can be traced how various administrations used border walls to safeguard their people. For example, the Great Wall of China was built by the early Chinese States to protect themselves against the nomadic groups of the Steppes. More recently, we have countries like the state of Israel that is building up various walls near Gaza to protect themselves from attacks by their hostile neighbors. This paper will discuss and seek to give an informed reason why the construction of the border wall could be of much positive impact on the American people, leading to safer neighborhoods, better government services and improved immigration systems that honor human dignity.

A border can be described as what is used to separate two different countries. For instance, America’s border wall has been used separate the United States from bordering countries such as Mexico. Such a protection has been used for the best interest of Americans. This is to protect them from threats like illegal crossing of the border and also to protect them from drug trafficking. There are many benefits of having the border wall such as improved overall homeland security. The security improvement is made possible by the border patrols that ensure no illegal immigrant comes into the country as well as ensuring that no illegal activities are taking place. The use of high-tech surveillance has aided in close monitoring of the borders. One of the reasons why the American government is working hard to prevent these illegal crossing of the border is because of the strain on government resources where the government is forced to spend on healthcare, social welfare and also education programs. The implementation of a border wall would result in protection of American citizens through improved homeland security and would not be detrimental to civil rights.

Merits of a Border Wall

Fight Illegal Trade and Immigration

The presence of a border wall will help to fight illegal trade and immigration. Many Americans are being endangered by the prevalence of criminal gangs hailing from the Mexican cartels. For example, MS-13 and other gangs use the southern border to Mexico to traffic their illegal drugs, weapons, and gang members. The trafficking of human beings itself is also one of the ways gangs acquire money from desperate men, women, and children seeking better opportunities for themselves and their families. Though others may rightly assume that the presence of a border will not hold back people from attempting to cross-over, when they attempt to do so they will have a 30-foot barrier to deal with. It will be able to allow more time for the border patrol to counter their attempts henceforth reducing the infiltration by unlawful people, smugglers, and human trafficking (Miller & Nevins, 2017). Due to the size of the wall, even those who manage crossing over will have to offload some of their supplies, therefore, less dangerous material will be able to penetrate.

Protect Private Property

A border wall would be effective in safeguarding the private property that belongs to Americans especially those who live around the border region. There have been reports in some of the areas around the southern border about repeated burglaries by enterprising criminals who crossover the border to steal what they can and head back to Mexico. This, in turn, leaves the hard-working Americans economically frustrated. Small towns usually end up being the most affected with the frequent cases of theft by criminals. Some of those criminals reported to be taking part in these activities are illegal immigrants. The structure of the border wall would also be fundamental to help prevent automotive theft that is a predominant crime in the border region.

Economy

According to McFadyen (2019) "The cost that is incurred by the United States government due to the traffic of illegal immigration is said to be in millions of dollars and according to the current Trump administration about 113 billion dollars is the lost income tax revenue. Due to illegal immigration, the government finances are usually strained by the overburdening social welfare, health and educational programs. Therefore, the construction of a border will protect the livelihood of the American people because the finances the government losses on illegal immigration can be reinvested in supporting public healthcare, building better infrastructure and strengthening the military budget to ensure there is improved safety and stability for those in America and beyond its borders. Additionally, the border wall will create hundreds of jobs for ordinary Americans to enable them to earn a living. For those who look at the building cost of the border wall and fail to look at the bigger positive impact that the wall will have on the U.S economy.

Critics of the border wall believe that the border wall would be a detrimental act of civil rights though it is still a matter of great debate, the wall could be the opposite. The border wall is not meant to restrict immigration but illegal immigration. Security has been a matter of great concern for a long time at the border and having a safer border will be beneficial to protect Americans and as well to protect some of the innocent people who are usually illegal trafficked and become modern day slaves to criminal gangs and cartels that exploit them. It has been largely reported how the illegal trade activities that take part around the border are funding the human trafficking business. The horror experiences told of the burdening process to cross the border illegally are stories that should push many to look at the border wall issue soberly. A border wall would frustrate these cartels and their businesses and push the fight against human trafficking to a greater level so as to make sure the dignity of both the asylum seekers and Americans is preserved.

Conclusion

It might be perceived that constructing the border wall will be divisive and separate the two neighboring nations but in reality, the border wall will ultimately help in aiding both Nations to become prosperous. A good border wall will help in the fight against illegal practices that are a danger to Americans and the people of Mexico. The building face will have its challenges but the benefits it could bring in the long-term will outweigh the short-term problems being encountered. Insecurity and instability of a nation are a high cost to pay if Americans ignore the problems at the border. Also, America is a country that is built on diversity and that should be something Americans should continue to embrace and appreciate while they are in the pursuit of having protective measures that protect us and our families.
