The nursing profession is arguably one of the noblest professions in the world. The profession has a long history of taking care of the most vulnerable members of communities in the corners of societies all over the world. The nursing profession has been a significant contributor in addressing social ills, alleviating pain, and suffering as well as promoting the social and economic welfare of communities across the world.

Nurses are active important participants in the healthcare industry and are important players in disease prevention and treatment and promotion of health and wellbeing of all members of society. Due to the crucial role that nurses play in societies, and the healthcare industry, it is therefore vital for nurses to work by providing a guiding framework in the delivery of these crucial services. Therefore, professional nursing bodies across the world provide these vital guidelines for nurses globally (Winland-Brown, 2015). In particular, the American Nurses Association (ANA) comes up with the guidelines and codes of ethics that govern all members of the nursing profession across the united states.

The American N urse s A ssociation prescribes codes of conduct to govern the relationship between the nurses and the patients, between the nurses and fellow healthcare workers, and the relationship between nurses and the community as well as the guidelines on clinical practice and in scientific research, particularly research on human subjects. The tenets of the ethical principles are on respect and autonomy for patients (Epstein, 2015). The patients’ freedom to make informed choices on what happens to their bodies is a fundamental code for all nurses.

Additionally, nurses must also ensure that all the care provided for a patient must be beneficial to the patients, the benefits and good of the patient should be considered above all other factors, this principle also applies to the conduct of scientific research on human subjects as well as in clinical practice. Further, nurses should ensure that they do n harm to the patient, no interventions that are harmful to the patent should be considered by bonafide nurses. In conclusion, the American Nurses Associating requires all their members to work towards the attainment of social justice for the communities that they serve.
