Arjun Walia's article talks about Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) and the dangers they pose to human health. Contrary to the common belief that GMOs are the solution to the world food problem, most research into this area points out that they have more problems than solutions. While doing so, the author makes several assumptions. First, he assumes that people do not know much about GMOs, and not enough research has been done to allow for full scale rollout of GMO products. He also assumes that the genes from animals eaten get to human beings through an unknown mechanism. Furthermore, he asserts that there are forces against the anti-GMO campaign.
The authors can justify the conclusions they make by the amount of scientific support they provide. The article breaks down the problems of GMOs into ten issues and backs up each section with research while acknowledging the limitations and areas that still need more research for further clarification. For example, he says that contaminants from GMOs have been identified in maternal and fetal blood citing studies from Canada. He also says that there is enough evidence to believe that DNA material from the genetically modified crops can be transferred into the human body after consumption.

There are contrary scientific views about the problems GMOs may cause to human health. According to Oliver (2014), chances of genetic materials from the GMO entering the body of the animal consuming them is low and should not pose any threat. DNA normally cleaves into small fragments during the digestion or food processing. As a result, it is less likely that the entire gene will remain intact. This is a fact for all DNA materials ingested into the body of animals and human beings. As a result, it is not likely for any gene to enter into the genome of an animal consuming GMOs.
