The story of Hong Gildong is from a Korean novel written during the dynasty of Joseon. The story is all about an illegitimate son of a nobleman and a lowborn concubine. He is the principal character of the story. He has extreme intelligence and mystical abilities. The first episode of the story is set in the Minister’s house in the city of Jangan. In this episode, we see the birth of the main character of the story, Gildong Hong. This was after a month of a sexual relationship between the minister and a lowborn servant girl, Chunseom. This part portrays the theme of unfaithfulness, whereby the minister was said to have several concubines besides his legitimate wife. He was adored seriously by his family due to his high talent and character refinement.

He had many hopes of becoming a great, respected man in the future even in the situation he was undergoing. These hopes were mainly brought about by the line; “Kings, lords, generals, and ministers are not made from special blood.” This part of the episode supports the theme of pain and sorrow and also the subjects of persistence and success.
