In the book “ A Rose for Emily ,” the author narrates a fictional story about a character by the name Emily Grierson who is famous in her local town. Emily had a great connection with her father that she mourned him for a long period after his death. Her love story becomes the conflict and helps to fully develop the character of Emily. The plot of the story focuses on developing the person of Emily Grierson through her interactions, love life, and using other characters to fully establish her.

The story’s plot begins with Emily Grierson’s death and evolves to demonstrate her interactions with her family and hometown known as Jefferson. Due to her reclusive personality, she is always caught up in gossips among her townsfolk as they try to analyze her lifestyle. The people of Jefferson acknowledges that she had a challenge letting her father go after he died, and she was unable to change her ways. Hence, the plot of the story revolves around what happened to Emily’s life until she succumbed.

The greatest conflict in the story arises when Emily poison’s her lover because she is scared that he would leave her and buried him in the house. Emily felt that even though her lover was dead and they could not communicate, she retained some connection by burying her nearby. Interestingly, the dwellers in Jefferson town only came to learn about the occurrence after she succumbed to her illness. The conflict was essential in developing the story and to illustrate how much hard it was for Emily to lose people that were close to her.

The characters used in the story helps in building the person of Emily Grierson and keep the flow of the story flowing. For instance, Colonel Sartoris plays an essential role in keeping Emily’s name as the talk of the town by protecting her from any humiliation. The colonel exempted Emily from paying taxes so that she would complete paying debts her father left behind. Similarly, Homer Barron dating Emily demonstrates the comfort she acquires from the practice and the extent to which she willingly protects herself from losing him to an extent that she poisons him. Character development in the story plays an essential role in building Emily’s story and personality.

The plot used in the book “ The Rose of Emily ” targets on developing the role and personality of Emily Grierson’s using varying tactics and characters. Emily demonstrates her challenges in overcoming her grief after her father succumbed, which also reoccurs when she decides to kill Barron so that she would not lose him. Moreover, even in her death, Emily manages to be the talk of Jefferson like when she was alive after Barron’s body is discovered in her house.
