The appropriate balance between the government and freedom in the U.S. democracy can be achieved by having the government's use of power or force limited to the constitution's ones. However, security has always been a major concern when it comes to freedom and the government. Therefore, this balance must ensure that people's safety and rights are protected to enjoy the freedoms provided in the constitution in a secure country. Individual freedom should be allowed as long as a person does not infringe others' rights or threaten their security. To ensure that people enjoy the freedoms provided in the constitution, it is crucial to have a more limited government.

Limited governments are those whose legalized application of power and force is controlled by entrusted and enumerated authorities. The government should be limited in particular areas, essential in economic, social, and political liberty. Countries with more limited governments have some of the highest annual incomes, high life expectancies, improved health, and more civil and political freedoms. The main function of the government should be to protect the public and property. It should levy just sufficient taxes to fund all the services associated with this function, such as law enforcement.

The government should keep off the businesses and affairs of its people. It should not be concerned with how many liters per kilometer a vehicle should use or how one invests their retirement benefits. By being restricted, a limited government imposes a low tax burden on people and their businesses. As a result of low taxes, people and businesses have more disposable income to use for their needs, savings, and investment, all of which are essential for economic growth. Besides, fewer government rules to be enforced means that the funds that would have been used on enforcement can be used in other productive uses.
