The work focuses discusses the recent upcoming knowledge about natural selection based on the article (Lizard blizzard survivors tell a story of natural selection) which profoundly outlines the details regarding the survival of the green anole lizards. The work further gives an insight into the association between this recent research and the theory of natural selection as per the on the survival of organisms according to the class textbook.

According to the research conducted by Shane Campbell-Staton of the University of Illinois, the population of green anole lizards has undergone a significant change in both Oklahoma and Texas after the period of severe cold weather. Such a conclusion is reached after a series of close observation about natural selection while putting in consideration the gene expression, gene sequence, and the anole lizard as a whole organism as it responded to the severely cold winter. Since the extreme weather conditions cannot be easily forecasted, Shane enhanced his study by securing and recording data obtained from the stated lizard species. This research began before the intense winter season in which Campbell-Staton records the information about five groups of anole lizards within Texas, Oklahoma, and further proceeds to regions of Tennessee, North Carolina and Mississippi. The aim of covering such a range was to find out the reasons behind the survival of these organisms. Campbell-Staton proceeds by compiling and analyzing information obtained from the organisms’ DNA and experiments on the capability of physical survival of the anole lizards in an extremely low-temperature environment.

During the winter period, further studies indicated a corresponding pattern of survival among the anole lizards on the southern areas hence confirming the theory of natural selection. Campbell-Staton anxiety to complete this survey was raised when he came across a photograph, which indicated that several anole lizards had died since they could not adapt and survive in the extreme cold weather condition. However, a major population of the lizards survived the extreme environment, and they had a higher survival advantage in the next unpredictable cold weather period. Additionally, the success of this study was primarily boosted by the three sources of evidence including the observation of the lizard’s DNA, expression of the genes, and the physical observatory measures both conducted independently with the aim of achieving the specified goal.

This research enhances the scientific view of the broad topic of natural selection. The study conforms to the previously conducted studies regarding survival capability of organisms. Furthermore, the initial studies indicate that survival is an essential part of an organism’s life. Also, death is paramount for organisms. However, the difference between the later and the former is natural selection in which only the organisms that possess the characteristics favored by the environment survive. For instance, the lizards, which managed to survive the winter season as the study was being conducted, might as well not manage to survive other extreme conditions. This is because the same organisms may lack the genetic variants to enable them to cope up and tolerate other extreme conditions such as drought.

In conclusion, recent researches regarding natural selection play a significant role regarding improving and enhancing knowledge mainly for the sake of students understanding. More so, such studies are great benefits to the human species as they continuously provide information about survival. Therefore, these studies should be considered as vital and be given top priority.
