Colossal amounts of data are generated and collected in all fields. With the use of statistical analysis, it becomes possible to make sense of the analyzed data to produce meaningful information that may be used to make informed decisions. Conversance with statistics allows researchers to collect interpretable data based on the statistics they desire. Scanty statistical knowledge may result in the collection of uninterpretable data leading to a wastage of time, money and other resources (Frost, 2017) . Studying statistics also aids in the reading and comprehension of journals, most of which contain statistics of sorts. An inadequate comprehension of statistics renders meaningless the statistical information contained in the results sections of journals. Further, studying statistics enables the development of critical and analytical thinking skills considering that an understanding of statistics demands the development and use of formal logical reasoning capacities which are as high level as they are creative (Frost, 2017) .

Opinion polls are scientific surveys capturing and expressing public opinions on various issues such as politicians and political parties’ popularity and support levels for various government policies. Opinion polls avail the chance for members of society to air their ideals and views on the issues in question and this feedback can be used by politicians and business organizations to strategize and make adjustments based on the poll results (Dionne & Mann, 2003) . Non biased opinion polls have respondents chosen randomly from the population whose opinions are being sought. This random sampling should ensure that every member of the population stands an equal chance of selection to participate in the poll questions which may be conducted face-to-face or through electronic media such as telephone calls. Ideally, being based on scientific principles, opinion polls are meant to be non-biased and a true reflection of people’s opinions but they are sometimes biased due to various issues therefore being inadequately representative of the population in question. Issues on opinion polls credibility arise based on the methods employed by the pollsters including whether the right questions were asked and whether the questions were designed to be manipulative. Additionally, mistrust of opinion polls results ensues when there are speculations of influence by interested parties such as politicians, media moguls and marketers to have the results in their favor. Opinion polls may also lack credibility as they often capture people’s opinions that are not well though about or issues they care little about simply because of the notion that one must have an opinion (Dionne & Mann, 2003) .
