The application of modern technology in healthcare has allowed physicians and nurses to use genomics and genetics knowledge to address diseases and promote health. The knowledge of these concepts has helped nurses to correct disorders that were first thought to have no cure. However, there are issues pertaining to these fields that hinder their use in medicine. On this essay, we discuss the use of genomics and genetics competencies and issues surrounding these fields in health promotion and disease prevention.
As a relatively new field, the use of genetic and genomics knowledge raises a lot of issues. However various resources are in existence to address genomics and genetics issues in health promotion and disease prevention. Example of such resources is policies. Policies address the ethical, legal and social aspects of genetics and genomics to help in driving responsible use of the knowledge from these filed to benefit the health of all humans ( Newcomb et al., 2019) . Official publications that provide knowledge on genetics and genomics open the field for medical researchers to explore health remedies and opportunities. Endorsing organizations, performance indicators, and educational resources are part of the resources that can help address the issues of genetics and genomics for health and treatment purposes. Technology, information and communication resources help in transfers and applicability of genetics and genomics knowledge in health promotion.

Genetic competencies open multiple doors for research on medicine and the health of the public. Knowledge gained enable health care agents to assess risk and genetic information. Competencies on genes also help doctors and nurses promote genetic education, counseling, testing, and data analysis and interpretation. The knowledge gives the nurses specific functions in genetic and genomic medicine. Genetic competencies are applicable in competency-based medical education to organize and structure curricula to improve the skill of care providers. Nurses who are genetic competence care for patients suffering from genetic disorders and provide counseling and guidance to such patients. The knowledge also creates advances in diseases prevention when shared in time to counter diseases that are gene-related (Consensus Panel, 2011).
