There is a great need for leaders to be coaches as it makes them be better leaders. According to Nadler (2020), coaching provides realistic, practical as well as immediately usable input. It enables leaders to identify specific behaviors that can help in achieving goals. Through coaching, leaders’ strengths’ are maximized. Most leaders that have passed through effective coaching report improved job satisfaction as well as performance in the workplace.

As a leader’s rank increase in an organization, the level of feedback from others goes down as their direct report doesn’t like giving honest feedback for retribution fear. In this case, the senior leaders have high expectations needed for continuous improvement. A coach can provide much-needed feedback as well as help to integrate feedback for specific actions. In most organizations, employees are prone to resist changes. Making these people accept the change, coaching is paramount. Coaches have the special ability to lead change by applying the psychology of motivation as well as neuroscience.

Currently, businesses are under intense pressure to become more effective due to the immense global competition. Businesses desiring to progress in an extremely competitive environment must invest in coach leaders. These leaders can easily inspire improved performance by fostering employee commitment. When leaders engage employees in productive coaching discussions, they motivate employees for enhanced productivity.

Nowadays, businesses are very dynamic. Because of the limited in-house training results in professionals as well as frequent job shifts, the demand for coach leaders with the ability to shoe the way to the employees is high. It is also to note that the millennial generation is gaining entry into the workforce. This generation calls for new leadership approaches that are premium on coaching skills. It is very hard to just give this generation instructions and expect good results. Coach leadership is critical when dealing with millennials.

In coaching, a thinking partner helps one in reaching the best vision for self. A coach brings various boosting components in the workplace. The first component is accountability and motivation for what one needs to accomplish. The second component is the tools as well as resources required for one to accomplish his/her goals. The other component is the thought of what one considers important. A coaching leader encourages “forced focus” amongst the employees on important aspects versus the constant distraction of the urgent.

Several factors constitute coaching. Coaching can entail the provision of an empowering, enabling as well as a supportive activity and relationship that honors the responsibility, creativity, and resourcefulness of the client. It can entail a goal, outcome or future-oriented purpose including working with the client in the domains of future, present or the past. The other dimension of coaching is a personal relationship as well as an activity between the coaching client and coach. This activity takes place within a context of trust and confidentiality. Coaching can encompass the outer as well as inner dimensions of people’s work and lives, practical and personal aspects of business, behavioral and psychological perspectives as well as spiritual, mental, emotional and physical levels of the clients’ experience.

Leadership coaching happens within an organizational context that involves multiple clients. In this case, leadership coaching means individual coaching clients as well as coaching sponsors. It focuses on leadership as an orientation and a calling rather than a formal role. It can entail working with teams as well as individuals as part of an organizational system. It can also encompass multiple issues as well as agendas, including those of crisis, meaning, purpose, development, change, behavior, and performance. The scope and nature of the work possible in leadership coaching are determined by the needs of the coaching client; client availability and openness as well as personal and professional capability of the coach ("What is Leadership Coaching? - Psychosynthesis Coaching", 2020).
