Telehealthcare refers to the provision of healthcare services by practitioners over a distance. There are three main components of telehealthcare. The first component of the practices revolves around the fact that the patient provides data via voice recording, electrocardiography, video, or any other appropriate method enabling the practitioner to know more about the illness ( Kwon & Jang, 2017) . The second component is the transfer of information electronically to a professional who is at a distant location from the patient. The third component is that the healthcare professional makes use of clinical skills as well as judgment in order to provide the patient with personalized feedback ( Tupper et al., 2018)

Telehealth Nursing

Telehealth nursing is the use of telemedicine as well as technology in order to conduct nursing as well as the delivery of care to a remote location. The field includes telenursing, telehealth, and the concept of nursing telepractice. All three terms can be used interchangeably. Nurses using telehealth come from all the available settings and make use of technology to deliver care over long distances Kwon & Jang, 2017) . Nurses can make use of this practice in the management of conditions such as diabetes and asthma without increasing mortality and minimizing hospitalization of the patients.

Telehealth nursing can be carried out anywhere as nurses can use technology to conduct the practice in their homes, their offices, and in clinics. The only requirements are that there is a proper technology available ( Kwon & Jang, 2017) . In emergencies, the nurses are in a position to participate in taking care of the patient as they can monitor oxygen levels, the heart rate, and the blood sugar levels of a patient. Patients who are not in emergency situations contact their nurses in order to get help. The nurse can then provide feedback to a patient on how to handle themselves and how to take medicine.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Telehealth Nursing

Telehealth nursing is beneficial because it is convenient, and patients can have personalized feedback. Secondly, it saves money, as the patients do not have to travel to see the doctor. It also helps to expand access in remote areas where hospitals are far from each other ( Kwon & Jang, 2017) . Nurses can monitor the progress of the patients at any one time, which helps in increasing patient engagement. The ease of obtaining information can mean better healthcare for the patients ( Tupper et al., 2018)

However, technology barriers are can occur, especially when the patients do not have access to appropriate technology. For example, a laptop may be needed by the patient. The use of telehealth nursing can lead to reduced continuity of care, especially when the patients may rely on technology more than the in-person sessions ( Kwon & Jang, 2017) . The practice cannot be applied in every situation, as some may require a physical examination. Insurance reimbursements may be a challenge as new rates must be set for the practice.

Tools Used in Telehealth Nursing

Computers with webcam, internet, telephones, and VOIP are some of the tools used in telehealth services. Patients with lifestyle diseases such as asthma and diabetes can benefit a lot from telehealth nursing. Consequently, populations living in rural areas and who may require a lot of time to get to hospitals can also benefit from the use of telehealth services ( Tupper et al., 2018) . During natural disasters, individuals with minor injuries can also use telehealth nursing to deal with their injuries or ailments. However, one must ensure that the nurse or the practitioner fully understands the situation and must not hide any information.
