The legislation was formulated to curb the rising trend in radiation overdose that arises from computed tomography in patients (children and adults) in California (Zucker & Barth, 2017). The radiologists need to be fully aware of the right dosage ranges. The legislation demands that the radiology report contains specific scanner dose metrics for all the patients undergoing diagnostic scans. The volumes required by this legislation include the volume computed tomography index and the dose length product.

The legislation impacts nursing care in a handful of ways. The nurses must be aware of the right dosages required and accurately document these dosages for reference purposes when the radiology report is compiled. The nurses will need to collaborate and consult with the physician on dosage and the whole CAT process to ensure the process complies with laws in place.

Nurses can advocate for the safety and separate policies by campaigning for evidence-based policymaking. Advocacy should be about promoting fairness, health equity, and justice (Parkhurst, 2017). The nurses can engage in research in the areas of concern that affect patients use the research outcomes to further the policy improvement agenda for the benefit of the patients. The nurses will play a crucial role in educating others, supporting advocacy organizations that align with their vision, support implementation, and initiate legal advocacy.

The era of massive technological advancement and the increasing application of artificial intelligence in medicine and nursing are vital indicators of changes happening and those to come. Policymaking bodies are likely to come up with more accommodating policies to increase efficiency and reduce chances of error. However, there is likely to be a case of other restricting policies due to the failure of the initial stages of some of the changes (Zucker & Barth, 2017).

In my opinion, safe harbor practitioner laws are an excellent way to allow nursing practitioners modest freedom to do their job without compromising quality. The exemptions help to make the practitioners do their jobs optimally. The protection from liability within the conditions met is crucial for assisting people in protecting themselves and having the right to access basic rights.
