Hockey, just like other types of sports, requires careful consideration of a number of strategies aimed at achieving game performance and success. As a hockey team coach, there are several strategies I would use to ice the sport and improve the performance of my team in terms of both performance and results. Below are some of the strategies and techniques I would use:

First, there is need to adopt positive beliefs regarding game playing and achievement. The belief that my team can succeed is enough to motivate my team achieve greater heights in hockey sport. There is need to consider the innate capabilities of individual players rather than their performance at the moment. Having a negative belief reduces chances of achievement. The best way is to start by motivating my team players that indeed they have the potential to attain great achievements in hockey.

Combination of both coaching and sourcing is another viable strategy which I can use to increase chances of success. While players are made, they are also born. It might take long to cultivate the players’ ability to perform. This is why there is need to source already performing players from all over the world.

Another strategy would be early recruitment of potential players into my hockey team. This can be followed with purposeful training that is performance-based. During training, I would focus more on the process rather than the end results. In this case, I would embrace failures of upcoming players and focus more on correcting them rather than demanding more in the course of their training period.

I would also make use of conditioning exercises as well as drilling practices. To achieve this, I would use specially designed competitive exercises to enhance and sharpen every player’s skills in hockey playing.

Borrowing from what other countries are doing to nurture their hockey players can also improve the team success. This can involve exchange programmes and competitions that are friendly in nature.

Lastly, I would consider the use of positive approaches that accommodates every player’s strengths and weaknesses. In doing so, I would also embrace mutual sharing of skills and experience among my team players.

In a nutshell, all these strategies are important and need to be applied in combination. I would try my best to be creative and take advantage of all possibilities of achieving success with my hockey team.
