In this new era, the challenges faced by management are on another new level, different from how it was in the past (Cummings et al. 2017). This paper will discuss some of the challenges that have come up in management in the contemporary times.
First, one of the main challenges that face modern management is the diversification of the work place such that both the young workers and the rather elderly are in the same working space. Problems arise in that the young workers are technology infused while the elderly seem to be more on the hands on side. The younger generation may even opt to work from home, which was unheard of in the past. It will thus be ethical for the managers to come up with training programs for the employees to better their productivity at the work place.

Another challenge faced by modern management is that of organization or corporate culture. If the corporate culture condones a certain point of view, managers are the ones who should affirm whether it is retained. This is because failure to this, the organization's culture and operating climate will be interfered with. If a manager intends to change an existing policy, he or she must evaluate the culture before making any decision. Organizational culture should also be shrouded in ethics, such that integrity is at the core of any firm’s culture.
In addition to that, modern management is facing the challenge of choosing the best communication style. Today’s world offers an array of communication tools and styles, but each has its upside and downside. If there is no proper communication in the business, managers will be out of the loop of the working process and may not be aware of the business standing in the market. This also means that there will eventually be poor communication to the suppliers and consumers, thus the product or service may be at risk.
There is also the challenge of having all employees identify the organization’s core competencies. When all the workers within a firm are on the same page, it becomes easier to move the business forward. Having decision making be based on feedback is also a modern challenge, in a world where managers need as many ideas as possible.
Thus, in conclusion, today’s world is very different from the past, majorly due to technology and globalization (Cummings et al. 2017). Managers need to find new ways of dealing with these new challenges.
